House Tour - After Renovation!

As many of you know, Matt and I bought our first home just a few short weeks before our wedding!  Pretty much as soon as the wedding was over, we got down to business & started our first house project, the front flower beds. {After, after here}

Before we go any further, check out what all we've done so far
Removed a load bearing wall... & it's still standing strong!

& Here's a run down of what we've done from start to... almost finished!

- Removed wall paper from entry way & living room ceiling (can't make this up!)
- Took out a load bearing wall
- Pulled down paneling in living room & breakfast nook (& replaced patchwork sheet rock!)
- Removed popcorn ceilings from breakfast nook & kitchen
- Retextured & painted the formal dining, living room, kitchen & breakfast nook... & ceilings
- Installed recessed lighting in kitchen & breakfast nook / new ceiling fan in living room
- Laid laminate hardwoods (love them!) in the formal dining, living room & breakfast nook
- Refinished the built-in shelves
- New trim & base boards all around
- Decorations are finally hung!

Formal Dining

Formal dining table coming soon!  Of course, we're diy-ing it!

Do you see where the wall used to be??

Living Room

Kitchen & Breakfast Nook

I can't tell you how many hours we put into this renovation but, I can tell you there was a little blood, a lot of sweat and definitely some tears {from me, of course!}  What we thought would take us 1-2 weeks ended up taking us 6 weeks.  Of course our time line was a little unrealistic at first but, between running into snags & learning as we went pretty much, it was to be expected.  You're probably wondering, "Did they do that all themselves?"  The answer is, yes we did it all!  We did have some help from both of our dad's & one friend but, the rest was all Matt & I!  I'm so thankful for a husband who is so handy & can do all of this with little help!  It was most definitely a test for our marriage, especially so early on but, I know it only made us stronger!

All that is left to do for this space is the kitchen counter tops, back splash & floor to install but, after that we are completely done with the front part of our house!  It's such an exciting feeling of accomplishment!

Have you ever done a house renovation?

What was your favorite part?

Five on Friday!

As you're reading this, I'm probably still sleeping, eating breakfast or out the door on two wheels cruising down the beach.   Yes, it's true, we're off again!  This time to the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally in Galveston!  I'm sure I'll have some great pictures upon returning!

Linking up with Christina, Natasha, Darci & April today!

One - I've noticed a few new faces around here lately... via GFC & Bloglovin'... and any other way y'all follow along... Just wanted to say HI & Welcome!  I love meeting new people & making new friends so don't be shy to say HI too!!  :)

Two - Matt & I have been super busy on weekends/not even home so it's been super important to get things done during the weekday evenings so that life (& our house) doesn't become a complete disaster!  I am happy to report that everything we had on our list to get done before we left yesterday is DONE!  It will be SO nice to go home to a clean house, made bed & laundry done!!  Don't you just love that feeling?

Three - Ever since the first time I made Christina's Pumpkin Dip, I just can't quit!  I've made it for birthday parties, dinners with friends, & work potlucks ... everywhere I take it, it's a hit!  In case you haven't seen the recipe, I'll share it again!
1 16oz Cool Whip {light or regular}
1 can of Pumpkin
1 box vanilla pudding {powder only}
1/2 tbsp Cinnamon
1/2 tbsp Pumpkin Spice
1 mini pumpkin
Nilla Wafers or Ginger Snaps

Mix all the ingredients together and set in fridge for a couple hours before time to serve.  When ready, spoon into the mini pumpkin & serve with Nilla Wafers or Ginger Snaps.  Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top & enjoy!

Four - Earlier this week I picked up this super cute faux leather jacket from Target!  I'm excited to test it out this weekend at the motorcycle rally & to finally have a "leather" jacket for winters.  I love the cream color because it seems to be the most versatile!
Xhilaration® Junior's Quilted Faux Leather Jacket -Assorted Colors
{Find it here}

Five - Yesterday, I finally shared our after pictures of our house remodel!  It was a lot of hard work but, it has definitely been worth it & we are enjoying all of it!  Go check it out if you haven't yet... & give me your feedback too!  :)

I hope y'all have a great weekend & Happy Friday!

Weekend Rundown - Friends, Guns & Fun!

Weekends come & weekends go... this one of course went quickly!  However, we were able to see both Matt's parents & my dad & a lot of our friends!!  Two of our good friends even got engaged!!!  So exciting & this gives us two weddings for next Summer now!!!

This weekend we were celebrating another birthday, the newly engaged guy's, skeet shooting style!  Yeah, we might be a little red neck with all this gun shootin' we've been doing lately but, that's ok!  ;)

Matt & I went exploring on the mule for a little bit Saturday afternoon.  It was so nice to be out in the country, away from town & all the lights... at night, you couldn't see anything but, the stars.  Perfection in my book!

There were jokes & laughs going all around, all day!  So fun to be with some of our best friends!

You just can't beat a Texas sunset.  Photo courtesy of Mr. Yancey!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!!

Tomorrow - Wedding Recap & be here Thursday for the big house reveal!  I know you're all dying to see it! ;)

Five on Friday!

Y'all, it's Friday!  (Obviously!)  But for real, it seemed like at least the beginning of this week just druuuug on forever!  However, we made it to Friday & for that I am happy, happy, happy!

I'm linking up with Christina, Natasha, Darci & April for

One - I have a confession to make... I was at Target earlier this week & was quickly going through the clearance isles.  You know, the ones that are in odd spots at the back of the store on the end caps?  Yeah, those clearance spots.  Well, I found some awesome pillows for our big couch!!  Yes, more pillows!  They're totally different than anything in my house (or that I've ever owned for decor) but, I love them!  & the fact that they were just $10 each!?  That much sweeter of a deal!

Two - Apparently I'm on a deal finding streak this week... Yesterday I walked into Marshall's in search of some decor items for our house.  On my list was a large chalk board or large frame I could DIY into a chalk board.  Literally the first thing I saw was a large chalk board!  I'm wanting to stay within a descent budget for the rest of the items I pick up & was pleasantly surprised when it was marked down to $20!  Come home to mama!!!
I'll be putting an additional coat of good chalk paint on & hanging it in it's new home soon!

Three - You can go ahead & call me Betty Crocker!  Last night while dinner was cooking, I started making breakfast for today.  I've been dying to make these Yeast Free pancakes & I finally did!  Matt & I tried one just to make sure they really were good & Oh. Ma. Goodness!!  So, so good!  Thanks to Steph for this yummy recipe!!

Four - This weekend we're off for another round of birthday skeet shooting.  Is there a pattern here??  Pillows, guns & beer??  Two weeks in a row!?  To make sure we celebrate right, we picked up one of our favorite Fall beers (Shiner) & one we've never tried (Sam Adams).  What's your favorite Fall beer??

Five - This bargainista is getting back at it today!!  I'm going to see if the shopping gods are with me one more time on my lunch break... I'm headed to the antique store to (hopefully) find some picture frames & flatware for house decor!  Wish me luck??

Hope y'all have a fantastic weekend!!

House Decorating {Inspiration}

With the front part of the house pretty much finished after the remodel, decorating has been in full swing!  I have almost everything done, just adding in things here & there & changing up things that I don't love as much as I thought I did at first.  I've been promising a house update for a while now & while today I still don't have that post for you, I do have a peek into some of what has sparked my ideas for decorating our home.  About that house tour... I promise it will be live on this blog NEXT WEEK!

First up, is the formal dining room.  It's the first room to your immediate left when you walk in the front door.  I knew I wanted this room to be bright & fresh.  Have some fun to it & be inviting as well.  I envision a many of meals around our dining room table (that doesn't exist yet) & a lot of memories to be made there as well!

Next up, is the living room.  Our living room is probably the first room that everyone sees walking through the door.  Same as with our dining room & really our whole house, I want it to be bright & fresh & most importantly, welcoming.  My overall color pallet for the house is neutral browns, tans, & cream colors with various green accents throughout.  My wish for our living room is that our guest feel at home enough to kick off their shoes & lay back in the recliners.

Last, but certainly not least... the heart of our home is the kitchen & breakfast nook.  With dark wood cabinets all around in our kitchen, I feel it's important to bring out the color here.  Currently, there are no decorations on the walls but, these things below have given me much inspiration!  I already have a large fork & spoon that I picked up a few years ago at Hobby Lobby.  I envision our kitchen, like most, being the focal point at friends & family gatherings.  Really, it already has become that & I love it!

What inspires your home decor?

I can't wait to show y'all how far we've come with the house since we started the whole remodel project began!!
I promise it will be here next week!!!

Wedding Rewind - The Reception!

Our reception was held at the beautiful McDavid home in Aledo, TX.  They are parents of one of my best friends Elizabeth (& bridesmaid).  Liza, her mom & home owner helped us out SO much with pretty much everything for our reception + so much other stuff!  Liza is such a blessing in our lives & we are forever grateful to her & her husband for opening their home to Matthew & I and all of our family & friends!

This was pre-wedding day so, no decorations

There was so much blood, sweat & tears that went into making this entire day possible.  I remember driving from the church to the reception with Matthew & thinking, "Soak up sister!  This is really happening!"  It was the absolute best day & we had SO much fun celebrating with all of our family & friends!!

Let's get this party started!!

Fore warning... be ready for picture overload!  But, in the best way possible!!

First Dance as Mr. & Mrs. Yancey

Father/Daughter Dance

Mother/Son Dance

Maid of Honor & Best Man Speeches
 Hiedi, my Maid of Honor... we have been best friends since the 1st grade!  We've been through it all together & there's nothing I wouldn't do for her.  She was the sweetest & brought up old memories of us playing house & MASH... How we planned to marry our perfect guys, live in these amazing mansions (duh!) & live happily ever after... She agreed that Matt is most definitely my prince charming!

 Malcolm, Matt's brother & Best Man... I don't remember much of the speech other than him pulling out what looked to be at least 10 sheets of printer paper with his speech typed out.  He made a couple jokes... one being that Matt had told him if Malcolm did a good job He could be his Best Man at his next wedding... hahahaha!!!  He made another joke about Matt being asthmatic & how He would most likely need his inhaler later that night!!  & Then Malcolm proceeded to pull an old inhaler out from his pocket for just in case purposes.  The picture below is our reactions after the 2nd best man joke... We were all so surprised with Malcolm's funny speech because he's such a reserved guy.  5+ months later, He is still very proud of it himself!

Cutting the cake...  I loved our cake so much & it was absolutely delicious!!

After dinner it was time to visit with our family & friends & dance the night away!

We had a photo booth set up where friends & family could leave us a message & we would see them when we got our wedding pictures back... these are just some but, we have enjoyed seeing them all so much!!

Bouquet & Garter Toss

Funny story... I ended up not wearing my original garter because it was too bulky for my dress & to be honest, it bugged the heck out of me.  So, we took it with us to the reception with plans to slip it on just before we did the tosses.  When it came time to put my garter on, it was no where to be found.  Long story short, it was right behind our cake table & somehow got thrown away!!  Liza being the craft saint she is, ran in the house & MADE ME a garter!!  (Hence, the picture below).  Matt tossed this one & all worked out great!  When stopping back by the house the next day, Liza had found both of my garters (keep & toss) in the trash!!!  Crazy thing but, she said she just couldn't stand the thought of my beautiful garters being thrown away!

Our last dance & exit

This is one of my favorite pictures... all of our closest family & friends sending us off with love & happiness!

It was truly the best day of my life & more than I could have ever dreamed of!  I am truly blessed to have married my best friend & soul mate this day!
