Weekend Rundown!

Hey y'all!  Happy Monday Wednesday!!!

Gah, where has the week gone!?  Well, I guess a weekend update is better late than never, right!?

I sure hope so!

Our weekend was full of go, go, go... go figure!

Friday night was originally supposed to be a low-key night of checking things off of my "to-do" list.  That quickly changed when some friends called with a couple extra tickets to the rodeo & wanted us to join them!  Of course we said "YES!"  So, up we went to go get ready & off to the rodeo we went!

We had such a fun time & I can't wait to go back once or twice more before it's over for this year!

Saturday I was up early & off with a couple of my best girlfriends to do some wedding craft shopping!  Of course we came back home & got right to crafting!  Chelle & I were working on a project that involved cutting up t-shirts... what else were we supposed to do with the shirt sleeves??

We were able to get a lot done Saturday & Sunday & I feel pretty accomplished after checking several things off my list!  CHA-CHING!

Saturday night we had my works annual awards banquet... it was fun but boy were we tired from being out the night before & shopping & crafting all day!  (Getting older is rough I tell ya!)

I've been a little under the weather since Sunday which explains my non-existence!  I'm hoping I'm on the mend because honestly, "I ain't got no time for that!"

Thought I would share this with y'all too... saw it on my way home from work on Monday!
#nofilter
That my friends, is a God thing.  SO pretty!  My Mom always called them "stairways to Heaven" - my heart smiled a little extra on Monday!

I hope y'all had a great weekend & start to the week!

I'm The List Maker Type

Hey y'all!!!  Happy Happy Friday!!!

It seems like this week has druuuug on & on... thankfully it's Friday & that means we're all just a few short hours away from FREEDOM!!!  (Don't tell me if you're off today or leaving early)  :)

I've got sort of mix bag of topics for today....

First, let's talk The Bachelor...

I like Sean... I really really do.  However, where do they find these crazy girls at!?  I mean for real!  Some of them seem very sweet & genuine but, then there's others... like Tierra.  Y'all I think that girl is absolutely loony... certifiable!  So far, I don't have anyone picked out to win, do you?

For the last month I've been participating in a 30 Day Office Challenge... I've been trying to get my life back in order after the holidays, eat healthy & get my workout on.  To be honest, I've been slacking & I'm not loving it.  However, yesterday I went for a walk with a co-worker on our lunch break... it felt SO GOOD to get out of the office & get some fresh air!
We got in 2.16 miles in just over 30 minutes!  Next week we're hittin' the pavement at least 3 times!
I'll tell y'all more about the 30 Day Challenge when we finish & let y'all know how bad I did!

If you know me, you know that I'm a pretty organized person.  I keep a running "To-Do" list for daily & weekly things that well, need to be done.  List just keep me motivated & make me feel good when there's a page full of those check marks!  You know what I mean!?  Don't leave me hanging here girls.
Buuut... not so much the case yesterday!
I now have an awesome Friday night ahead of me!

I know, you're so jealous! HA!

Seems like I've had some failures this week... Good thing I can laugh about it all!
Here's to a weekend of getting re-organized & back on top of my game.
(Yes, I've got game... roll with it, please.)

Oh, one more thing I MUST share with y'all... Vistaprint has an awesome Groupon offer right now!  $12 for $48 worth of ANY products/printing!!!  Y'all go & get yo Groupon on!

*I have not been compensated by Groupon or Vistaprint in any way... I just thought this was an awesome deal & would be a terrible person/friend/blogger if I didn't pass along said awesome deal.*

I hope y'all have a great weekend!!!

Facts of Shayna

So yesterday, Miss Whitney hosted a fun link-up where everyone shared some fun facts about themselves.  Clearly I'm slacking a little but, better late than never right!?

It's been a little bit since I've shared some fun facts about myself & since I have some new peeps around here (HI!) I figured I would go ahead & fill y'all in on some stuff!

The Facts of Me

- I love a clean & organized house.  With that said, my house is usually in shambles most days.  It gets cleaned spick & span 30 minutes before guest arrive.  #truestory
Story of my life..

- I love having the house to myself from time to time... buuut, I can't stand to sleep alone in the house.  Old house = random noises at night = no bueno for this chick!

- I didn't dye or hi-light my hair ever until I was 21.  Yep!  One of my best friends & I were bored & I decided I was ready to dye my hair.  So, we dyed it black.  It was in November & I was as pale as a ghost.  Smart move.

- Speaking of hair, it never fails that someone at the salon comments on how thick & just how much hair I have.  Yes, there's a lot of it... I've tried to make it thin but, it never works!  Thankfully, I've learned to tame it a little.

- I'm a sucker for a good bag.  I love hand bags/purses but, I really love large bags that will fit gym clothes or quick overnight trips.  Matt has tried multiple times to convince me that I have enough bags.  I have told him multiple times to build me a big BIG closet in our next house.  Easy enough right??

- I've said it before & I'll say it again... I'm a slave to reality tv.  I can't help but watch all of these crazy people over & over & over!  I'm sure there's a rehab for this but, I'm not interested.

- I've never gotten into any of the awards shows.  It wasn't until I started blogging that I knew there was an "awards season".  HA!  I do love seeing all of the pretty dresses & stuff but, I just haven't been able to get into all of the fluff.  (No offense to anyone who is... it's just not my thang!)

There you have it... 7 random facts about moi!
Hopefully, y'all learned something new & maybe can relate to one!?

Tell me in the comments a random fact about you!

This Thing Is Legendary!

Hey y'all!  Happy Monday!

This weekend kicked of the 2013 Ft Worth Stock Show & Rodeo!
Y'all, I LIVE for this time of year.  There's just something about seeing all the horses & trailers ALL over town... the smell of it all, yes the smell... the food, the shopping.  OH the shopping.  It's just one of those things that's so much fun it's hard to explain.  It reminds me of home & growing up.  My Dad & brother team rope & I raised pigs for FFA... being around this sort of stuff is just in my blood.

We woke up early Saturday morning, got our grub on & bundled up to hop on the motorcycle (steal horses in the city) & ride to downtown for the parade.  Believe it or not, in all of my 26 years, I've never been to the parade.  My Dad said it had been about 40 years since he had been.  #oldie  :)

1. TCU Band
2. The Stock Show mascots
3. Ropers
4. The wild women of Pearls Dancehall Saloon - they were hilarious!

Some friends of ours riding in the parade!

& Lastly... Saturday was also one of my best friend's birthday!  They met us at the parade as well & rode their steal horse in... :)

We got to have lunch & some drinks after with them & enjoyed some tunes on the patio at Fred's Texas Cafe.
We had to make an dumb adult decision to stay in Saturday night verses playing out on the town.  Let me tell ya, it was hard & not a fun decision to make!  However, I guess it's a good thing we did because I would of had to figure out a way to haul Matt out of the bar... he fell asleep on the couch by 7:30!!!

Sunday was filled with a lot & I mean A LOT of wedding crafts!  I'm so excited & wish I could show y'all everything now... but, I promise to show y'all after the big day!

I hope y'all had a great weekend & have a great week too!

Hello Friday!

Happy Friday friends!

I don't have much to say today (shocker I know) but, I wanted to pass along a couple funnies that have made me "LOL" lately!

Ha!
Y'all, it's been one of those weeks.  Poor Matthew.  And my co-workers.  And anyone else that has come in contact with me this week.  Bless. Their. Hearts.

hahahaha truth.
It's the little things in life, ya know!?  Anyone else feel this way sometimes?

Thankfully I'm busting out of the office at 12 today so my weekend can start a little early!
There's plenty of craft projects & the 2013 Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo ahead of me!!!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!!!

Saw It. Pinned It. Did It. - Gel Nails

Hey y'all!  It's Thursday! It's Thursday!  Only the best work day next to Friday, of course!

Don't y'all just love Pinterest?
I do.  I find myself building the most amazing dream home.
I'll have the cutest little kids that you've ever seen running around in that dream home
I'll be sporting the most rockin' bod out by my dream pool
Then whippin' up the most delicious recipes for the fam at the end of the day... & of course they're all healthy!

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it.

Another reason I love Pinterest so much?

The beauty tips & tricks you can find!!!
So, today I want to share one I found for At-Home Gel Nail Removal

As we all know Gel Nails are the new craze.  I've yet to fall in love with them but, I do think they look nice.  After getting my nails done a couple of weeks ago with some girlfriends, they've started to wear off a bit & chip.  Plus my nails grow really fast so they moved away from the cuticle really fast which, drives me nuts!

Since I'm a born bargainista & not wanting to spend any unnecessary money right now, I decided I would remove my gel nails at home!

Here's my original pin:
In 2013, let's promise to never rip our gel nails off again. Instead, you can take them off like a pro at home. Follow the link for all the steps. xo

The supplies I used:
Acetone
5 cotton balls pulled in half
Nail file
10 square foil pieces - I cut mine
4 way nail file (a different name?)
Clear nail polish for the finished product
Orange Stick - not pictured & not really used  :)

I roughed up my nails as best I could, mainly trying to get all of the "shiny" part off

After all the "shiny" is off, foil your fingers!  I found it easiest to wet all of the cotton pieces & lay them each on a foil piece.  Then, starting with your pinkie lay your finger on the foil, place the cotton ball on top of your nail & wrap the foil around.
Let them set for a good 8 minutes.

After removing the foil you'll begin to remove the gel from your nails.  This is where the orange stick was supposed to come into play but, I found it worked best just to use my other nails.  & don't worry if your nails are looking a little crummy at this point...
they'll get better!
Go wash your hands thoroughly & pick off any other gel that might still be on there.

Then, I used the 4 way nail file & worked my way around all 10 fingers until I was happy with the way they looked.  Once I had my nails filed & buffed to perfection (HA!) I painted my nails with a clear coat.  They now look so fresh & so clean, clean!

I'm so happy to have the gel nails off & I saved a little cha-ching by doing it myself, at home!  That's a Win Win if you ask me!

Have you ever removed Gel Nails yourself?

Do you enjoy doing at-home manicures?

Be sure to stop by Steph or Katie's blogs & see what everyone else has completed... Thanks to Pinterest!  Come find me on Pinterest here!

Call Me The DiY Bride

Hey y'all!  Two thumbs up for it being Wednesday!

Since 2013 has decided to grace us with it's presence, all things Yancey Wedding have been in FULL swing!  Thankfully I have The Knot, my BFF & Maid of Honor, Matt & a handful of other wonderful family & friends to help me out & keep me on track!

After shopping 'til we dropped in Canton a few weekends ago, my BFF/MOH & I got to crafting that Saturday night.  First we painted some wooden letters....
Green & White are our wedding colors....
The green letters spell out my (soon-to-be) last name
& the white letters are for wreaths that will be hung at the reception

We then moved onto making the boutonnieres that all of the guys will wear.
OF COURSE I miscounted the amount of supplies we needed & so we were only able to get about half way done.  Luckily Hobby Lobby is only closed on Sunday's & I was able to get what I needed the following week.  I finished the boutonnieres this last weekend & I have to say that I'm really proud of how they turned out!
*I'm only showing part of the boutonniere to save the big reveal for the big day!  But, I promise it will all be fully revealed after the big day!*

If you've searched Pinterest at all you might have an idea where I'm going with these!  :)

Neither Matt or I were crazy about the original suit option that I had chosen once we got to the store & he tried it on.  After searching & searching we both finally agreed on something that we liked!  Yippeee!!!  Monday night we went to try on the ensemble & we have a winner!
Figuring out guys attire = CHECK!

The last time I posted about wedding stuff we were just a little under 150 days until the BIG DAY!

Now...
technically 108 days if you're reading this on Wednesday... but, who's counting really?

For real, I looked at that number today & my heart skipped a couple of beats!
I'm beginning to feel so many emotions (when do I not?) & it's all SO exciting!

There's a lot happening in the coming weeks & I can't wait to share it with y'all!

Are you or will you be the DiY Bride type??

Happy Wedding Wednesday y'all!!!

Cel-e-brate Good Times C'mon!

Hey y'all!  Happy Monday Tuesday!

Yesterday flew by SO fast!  I looked down at the clock & it said 3:35... How did that happen??
I don't care to know I'm just glad Monday flew by.  Here's to hoping today does the same!

Friday was Matt's actual birthday & the poor thing waited all day until I got home to open his gift from me.  (He had told me earlier in the week not to get him anything so... I didn't do too much.)

So, I got the biggest bag we had, put his "gift" in the bottom
& filled the bag with tissue paper
Left the card on the table & had him read it first....
Inside the card I wrote, "I'm "nuts" about you!" & some other mushy stuff that you don't want to hear.  :)

He pulled & pulled the tissue paper out & finally got to his gift at the bottom... Peanuts!!!  :)

Thankfully he's an easy going guy & laughed about it.  Said he'll keep them for when baseball season starts!  HA!

Later we headed to dinner at OTB where some of our friends & Matt's parents met up with us.  It was great to have some of the people we love & enjoy most together for the evening!

After dinner Matt had to do the obligatory Birthday dance while the OTB peeps chanted Happy Birthday to him!  Again, he's an easy going guy & was a great sport about "keeping the napkin going or they would start over".

Sunday we went out to my Dad's to celebrate his fiance's birthday (hers was Tuesday) & had some yummy Mexican food for lunch!
The rest of the weekend was spent grocery shopping & running other miscellaneous errands.
I did manage to squeeze in some more wedding crafts (more on that tomorrow)!

Hope y'all had a great weekend too!

Here's to Tuesday flying by!!!

Friday's Letters

Hey y'all!  Happy-freakin-Friday!!!!

I don't know about y'all but I am glad to see this week coming to a close!  I'm ready for the weekend... double the birthday celebrations = double the fun.  Plus, I'm hoping to get some more wedding crafts done that I'll give a sneak peak of next week!

Dear Blogging Friends - Thank You! Thank You! Thank You ALL from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind words this past week!  I've always known that the blogging community is something great to be a part of but, I found out this week exactly why it's SO great... We're all here for each other.  Good or bad, we've got each other's backs & that's what I love & appreciate so much!  My heart has truly been warmed by everyone's kind words & for that I say "Thank You!!!"

Dear Gym - We rekindled our relationship this week & it feels SO good to be back together!  I've been eating better/healthier too & that makes our visits together that much better.  I'm excited to be back at it!

Dear May Books day planner - I bought you back in October or November sometime.  I have to admit, I did not like you very much at first.  You're smaller, the pages are all messed up (compared to ones I'm used to), & there's no blank pages for notes in the back.  Buuuut.... since the new year has finally come I've been forced to use you & I'll admit, you're not so bad after all.  Since I've already paid $25 for this one I refuse to spend another $15 at Target for a different one.  HA!  Anyone else love or dislike your May Book???

& the most important of all today....

Dear Matthew - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!  I hope you know just how very much I love you & cannot imagine my life without you!  Despite our rocky start to the new year, I'm confident things are about to be on the up & up & we're going to have the best year yet... thus making this birthday that much more special!  I know you don't put much stock into birthdays BUT, I can't wait to celebrate YOU this weekend!  Love you to the moon & back!

Linking-up with Ashley today!  Go see what everyone else is writing!

I hope that y'all have a great weekend!!!

NEW Adventures In 2013!

Hi y'all!

Didn't know this little ole blog of mine was getting a face lift did ya!?
So, what do you think??

Some of you have already commented how you like it & thank you!  Really we need to be thanking Shannon!  That girl is so creative!  I told her what I wanted & wished for... & voila!  Done!

Through my many questions & different ideas... seeing colors one way via my phone & a totally different way on the computer... & more questions I had for her, she was so sweet & SO accommodating!

If you're on the hunt for a new blog design, contact Shannon @ Shannon Page Design.  She also blogs so be sure to stop by & tell her how much you love my new design show her some love!

Also, I've been doing some thinking... I know, that could be dangerous but, I promise it's about good & positive things!  My friend Chelsea chose a word last year that helped inspire her throughout the year.  I haven't made any "resolutions" for this year because I never complete them anyways.  Why set yourself up for failure & that awful feeling of failure?  So, I've been doing some thinking over the last couple of days.

Matt & I have an amazing year ahead of us.  Despite our recent set back, I know it's still going to be great!
So, I've chosen a word this year to help remind myself of all the wonderful, fresh, exciting things coming our way.  My word for 2013 is, New.

Here's a list of NEW things/happenings/events taking place in 2013:

For starters, a new blog design

A new job and/or career path for Matthew

I'll be getting a new last name come May

Quite possibly a new blog name as well... Stay tuned!

We'll be searching for & hopefully buying a new-to-us home

I'm excited about all of the new things that are to come our way.  I'm sure there will be other new events & adventures that come along throughout the year that I don't even know about yet... that's one of the best things about life!

Thank you all for your kind words about our recent set back on yesterday's post!  It's all very very appreciated!!!  :)

When Life Kicks You Right in The Gut

Hey y'all!  I hope that everyone had a great weekend!!!

We did!  Matt went out of town for a bachelor party (not his) & I got to spend some quality time with some girlfriends & go shopping in Canton!  One thing about a girls heart... it ALWAYS pitter patters a little bit more when it's fed with shopping!  Duh!

Sunday night we went to see one of my best friends, her hubs & their NEW baby girl!  & By new I mean 9 days new on Sunday!  Talk about a precious, tee-tiny, little princess!  She's just perfect & makes you want to eat her up.  You know how little babies do that!?

& then Monday came.  Generally I don't get too worked up about Monday's unless I'm running late or there's a lot of traffic.  But, this Monday... it was the pits.

Matt called me about 9:30 am.  I just had this gut feeling that what was on the other end of this phone call was not good.  (You ever get those gut feelings?  Women's intuition?)  The news Matt was delivering was not good.  He had just been laid off from his job.  Being the emotionally charged woman that I am I instantly burst into tears.  What?  How can this be happening?  You got what???

After clearing my eyes & taking a few deep breaths, I realized it WILL be ok.  We're a team & we're in this together.  How we'll make it financially if he's unemployed long term, I don't know.  But, what I do know is that the Lord is with us, He will take care of us & He will provide!

I hadn't checked my daily Bible verse yet that morning but when I did this was the verse of the day:

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." Proverbs 23:1

How fitting is that!?  Does God know when you need him OR WHAT!?

I know in my heart of hearts that Matt & I will be ok.  He's a strong man who doesn't stay down for long... He only sees this as a challenge & more motivation to get out there & find another job.  Something better & something that he enjoys more than the last.

So today friends, I ask that y'all keep us in your thoughts & prayers as we venture through this journey of unemployment (hoping it's not too long) & new career adventures for Matthew.  & being that pretty much the whole company was laid off, please keep those others & their families in your thoughts & prayers too.

Here's to bigger & better things & giving it ALL to the Lord!

Have a great day y'all!!!

XOXO,
      Shayna

Well Hello, 2013!

Hey friends!  It's been a few days since I've been back!

First of all... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I can't believe it's already Thursday but, I'm really glad it is too.  I couldn't handle getting thrown back into a full work week right after all of the holidays!  I mean, could you imagine???  That would just be tragic!

Anyways, last Friday night I traveled to my hometown to have a yearly Christmas ornament exchange & get together with some of my closest girlfriends.  This year we decided to have it at Hiedi's house & pajamas were a must!
Can a girls night get much better??  I think not!

After spending last NYE at home on the couch with Matt asleep well before midnight & toothpicks in my eyes to see the ball drop, we decided to celebrate out on the town this year!

We got together with some other good friends of ours & hit the Stockyards!  We bar hopped all up & down Exchange & it was so much fun!  Made me think a little of just how times have changed in the last several years.  These were the same bars my girlfriends & I would galavant around thinking we would find our one true love!  HA!  My how times have changed!  Now, I'm there with my fiance & soon-to-be husband.  Thankful to have the fun memories that I do but, also thankful to be where I'm at in life now too!

Here's our NYE 2013 in pictures...

the nicest shot glasses you ever did see

lol... our group!

I swear our friend is normal

We had so much fun ringing in the new year & did exactly what we wanted on New Year's Day.  We slept in, we watched The Hangover, we napped.... oh it was glorious!

I've got this great feeling that 2013 is going to be nothing short of AH-MAZING!
I'm looking forward to all of the wonderful memories this year is to bring... in life & here on this blog!

So, how did you ring in the New Year??

I hope y'all had a very happy one!!!

XOXO,
      Shayna
