Closing One Chapter, Opening Another

Hey y'all!  Happy Friday!

This week Matt & I have been grabbing the last few teeny tiny things from our rental & cleaning the house to prepare for the new tenants.  Yesterday was what will most likely be our very last time to be in that house.  A place that we've called home for the last 3 1/2 years.

It was a very bittersweet day.

Thinking back over the last 3+ years, we've made a lot of memories in that little house.

- Our first Christmas together
- A handful of birthdays
- 4th of July parties
- Ugly Christmas Sweater parties
- Bingham's first home

I could go on & on but, what made that house special is that not only was it mine & Matt's first house together but, we made that house a home.  It was our first home together.

Standing in the entryway before we locked & shut the door for the last time, there were definitely a couple of tears shed.

I'm thankful for all of the wonderful memories, and some not so wonderful, that we had in this little home.

We're ready to close this chapter in our lives though & put a big 'ol check mark by it... Successful!

With chapters closing, new ones open...
We are blessed beyond belief & so excited for this new chapter.  SO many new things are ahead of us & I absolutely cannot wait to take on these new adventures!

Have you ever felt bittersweet when moving from one home to another?

Bachelorette Party Shenanigans!

I figured since we're 11 days out from getting married...(yes! I said 11!!!) that I should probably recap my fun little get-away of a bachelorette party!

Saturday morning all of us girl woke up briiiight & early to all meet up & get on the road by 9 am.  We almost made it... we left about 9:20 so, that's a win in my book!  There were 5 of us in the car I rode down in & then other girls we're meeting us in Gruene.  If you've never heard of Gruene, TX check. it. out!  It's a fun, little, hill country, river town that has shopping & drinks & shopping & drinks!  I wanted just a girls get away to enjoy the small town & get away from the hustle & bustle!  & That's what we did!

Yumm!!!

Happy to be arriving in Gruene!

First stop was lunch & drinks at Mozie's... Yummy, yummy food
Wedding Cake Martini... not so yummy (IMHO)

My girlfriend KayLynne who could only meet us for lunch because the poor thing had 3 other engagements to be at that day!  So sweet of her to stop by for little 'ol me!

My lunch dates!

Then it was off to shop some around town & drink the free drinks that were in some of the shops!
Yes, it happened & it was fun!

Then we made our way to one of the wineries in town, The Grapevine.  They had live music out under the tree on the patio, there was a cool breeze & the wine-a-ritas were amazeballs!

After the winery we decided to take the party to tha hotel lobby!  Kidding... but, we did go to the hotel to freshen up & get ready for dinner & Gruene Hall!

We had dinner at The Gristmill in Gruene.  This is definitely a great place to stop & enjoy the atmosphere if you've never been to Gruene.  It's mostly outdoor seating & the restaurant sits right on the river... So much fun!  & Yummy too!  :)

After we stuffed ourselves until we could barely walk we went over to Gruene Hall - the oldest dance hall in Texas!  There was a band called The Derailers playing & while we didn't know all of their music, they were a great band!

Yes, my two aunts joined us for the weekend!  It was so fun having them there celebrating too!  Love them!

We finally made our way back to the hotel late that night & had some girl talk before crashing!
We were up early for breakfast & to get back on the road... little miss Krystal had to get home to PA & sweet thang flew all way in just for my bachelorette party!  I really do have some awesome friends!  Love them all to death!

It was only appropriate that we have waffles in the shape of Texas!

If any of your girls are reading this, THANK YOU for such a fun weekend getaway!  It was really nice to escape from the crazy life & have some fun with some of my most favorite girls!  Thank y'all again & I love y'all to the moon & back!

I'm not sure if we ate or drank more that weekend... either way I had a great time & it was the perfect bachelorette party for me!

Weekend Happenings!

Hi friends!

I'm sure this sounds crazy but, I'm actually glad to see Monday roll around.  Last week was literally a week from hell.  Anything that could go wrong, went wrong... or so it seemed.  Maybe I'm being a little dramatic here but, your know what I mean!?  Right!? Right!?

Anyways, this weekend was a good one despite the terrible week.  Friday night consisted of unpacking more stuff & just trying to get everyday life stuff out & organized.  Kitchen - check!  Living Room - check!  Master bedroom & bathroom - check! Office - check! (Sort of on the office... I at least know where our bills are at,etc.)

Saturday morning was spent running errands & getting more things checked off of my to-do list.  Matt was away this weekend for his bachelor party so it was perfect for me to get things done sans him.  Just being honest here.  After all of my errands were ran I met up with a couple of girl friends for some afternoon drinks & then we were to head Down Town for the Main St Arts Festival.

We stayed a little longer than intended buuuut, we finally made it & Sister Hazel was awesome!

Do y'all remember Sister Hazel??  To be honest, I didn't know a lot of their songs but, the ones I did know I loved!

Sunday was spent relaxing & doing nothing of what I needed to be doing.  Hey, sometimes a girl just needs time to kick back & relax... & that's exactly what I did!  It felt awesome!

What did you get into this weekend?

Hope y'all have a great day & an awesome week!

Life Lately - Nothing Short of Crazy!

Hey y'all!  Wow!  So, it's been a hot minute since I've shown my face around here... sorry about that.

When I last left y'all I announced that Matt & I signed papers & bought our first home!  Well, ever since closing day & getting our keys that week, we have been on the go literally non-stop!

Here's a pic I took of our rental the other day... Everything in this picture is now out

& a picture of our "new" kitchen.  While I was out of town last weekend for my Bachelorette party (recap of that next week) Matt painted the living room & kitchen area

Monday evening we had some help & were able to move all of our "big" items... couches, fridge, dressers, etc.  It ended up being so late when we got done that I took off work on Tuesday... apparently moving is hard work for a pup too!

Wednesday was looking to be an uneventful day until I left work & was involved in an accident.  I was on the highway & stopped in traffic & BAM! BOOM!  I was rear ended & then pushed into another car!  Luckily, everyone is ok & karma will get the lady who hit me & then took off.

After getting home & not feeling like doing too much, I decided to cook an easy, fool proof meal... Spaghetti.  It was our first home cooked meal, in our new home & in my new Paula Deen cookware!  It was  so so yummy!  & Nice to have a home cooked meal too!

Last night was filled with more unpacking & unpacking & unpacking... I haven't had a beer well, since last weekend but, this was needed after the week I've had!

I then realized that we are just 2 short weeks away from becoming Mr. & Mrs. Yancey!!!
2 weeks people!!!
{Come find me on Instagram: @shayna_e}

So, that's my life in a nut shell the last week & a half.  Not too interesting but, definitely chaotic!  We finally get internet today so I'll be tapped back into social media & blogging next week!  YAAY!

I hope everyone has been staying out of trouble & had good weeks despite all of the heart ache that is being felt through the nation.  My continued prayers for those in Boston & in the tee tiny town of West, just a couple hours South of Ft. Worth.

Have a great weekend friends!

Closing Day!!!!

AAAHHHHH!!!!

Y'all, I have BIG news!!!

I must confess, I've been keeping a little secret the last couple of months!  I know, I know, secrets don't make friends but, this was one for just Matt & I and our family & IRL close friends to know.

Matt & I BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!

I know! I know!  Insane!  We're getting married in just 20-something days, etc., etc.

Yes, life is absolutely crazy right now & it's not exactly how we planned it buuut, it just all happened to work out this way.  Our original plan was to wait until after the wedding & Matt found a job to begin looking for a house to buy.  Well, we discovered at the end of February that the lease on our rental house was up March 13.... errr!?  We talked to a very dear family friend & realtor who then referred us to a loan officer.  We discussed our options for buying a house before & after  we get married & like I said, it just all happened to work.  The numbers worked.  And if we could find the perfect house (I use perfect lightly), in a descent neighborhood & in our price range... within enough time before the wedding, we would jump on it.

Well, we tried... about 4 or 5 times & houses were just flying off the market before we could even get there to see them!  This house was the second offer we had put in & it was a tense 24 hrs before we heard back from the seller.  Luckily, they accepted our offer, we've had a GREAT real estate agent & an awesome loan officer!  In just over 3 weeks we have placed our offer, gone through ALL of the loan stuff & have signed the dotted line just yesterday afternoon!

These pictures were taken the other day when we stopped by to show my Dad & brother

It's an older home with great bones.  There's definitely some updating that will be done (which is exactly what we were looking for) but, we'll wait until after the wedding to start on any major projects!

We already met one of our neighbors & he is SUPER nice!  We're excited to paint (yes, we're painting just a little bit), get moved in, get married & start our new lives in our new home!

Yaaaay for closing day!  (Awesome gift our loan officer gave to us!)

I'll be back later with some more pictures of the inside!

Have a great day y'all!!!

Weekend Rundown - Wedding Shower Style

Happy Monday y'all!

Actually, is it really Monday already!?  I honestly feel like it was just 4 o'clock on Friday a hot second ago.  Oh well... Here we go again!

This weekend was another busy one for us... but, busy in a good way.

We had ANOTHER wedding shower!  A group of sweet, sweet ladies from Matt's church in his hometown decided they would like to throw us a shower as well.
And shower us they did!

We drove into Graham Saturday morning and the shower started about 10 am... brunch style!  Yumm!

All of our prezzies!  There's an adorable home boutique in Graham & I registered there knowing we had invited many people from Graham... in hopes that we would get some gifts from there.  And boy did we get some gifts from there... pretty much everything!
We are truly blessed & I can't believe how much was given to us out of love & support!

All of our wonderful & sweet hostess'!!!

After the shower Matt & I came back to Ft Worth to take care of some other stuff... more on that Tuesday (yes, an announcement... check back!)

Sunday was filled with church time & lunch time....
And then a looong nap!  And it felt GREAT!
(I'm sure that's so wrong on some level but, it's the truth... :)

How was your weekend?

Cheers to Monday y'all!

April Goals!

Hey y'all!

I can't believe it's April already!  For so many reason I'm over the moon excited about this but, no more than the fact that exactly 1 month from today I'll be marrying the man of my dreams!!!  (sorry for the mushiness!)

Moving right along.... March was a crazy month, I think... I don't know if I remember too much of it actually, it went by SO fast!

Get back on YF & complete it for a full month  I'm checking this off because I'm happy to report I've been down 8 lbs for about 3 weeks now.  I need to be more strict with YF but, most every food decision I make is based on YF.  :)

Send out wedding invitations We got this completed in 2 1/2 nights & I'm working on my post for how we fixed our mess up!

Make at least 1 special date night/day for Matt & I.  - This did not happen.  Plain & simple.  Better luck in May because I know April is a wash.  #truetalk

Try on my wedding dress by the end of the month & feel amazing & beautiful in it  I actually put my wedding dress on twice in March... the first time I felt like crap in it & the second time I felt amazing!  Can't wait to wear it for one full day!!!

Cook dinner 3-4 times a week - this sort of happened.  I'm leaving it on here because with our crazy schedule I need to get better about preparing our meals.

Do a "no spending week" - Again, plain & simple, this hasn't happened.  Maybe after the wedding??

hello #april

April Goals

To be totally honest, I'm not setting expectations high for this month... we're officially 30 days away from the big day TODAY & life is absolutely crazy right now.  So, here's my very simple hope I can get through them April goals...

Continue doing AWESOME on YF!

Make meal plans & cook dinner

Get to the gym & workout 3-4 times each week... quit putting this on the back burner & make it a priority, you'll appreciate it come May 4th!!!

Blog more than 5 times... (cough cough, like in March!)

Make it through this month!

That's all I've got for today!  I'm trying to work on some other fun post for y'all but, time is quickly slipping away from me!  Hang with me will ya??

What are your goals for April?

Are they complex or simple?

Make it a great day y'all!!!

Happy Easter Weekend (+ An Announcement!)

Hey y'all!!!

Happy Monday!  I hope this Monday finds you all still in a ham or turkey feast coma!  I'm currently feeling that way as I type this! (Sunday night)

We've had such a great weekend!  We decided to stay home because with the wedding just around the corner & some other things taking place as well, we thought it was best.

Thursday night we went to a Texas Rangers pre-season game with some other friends.
The Rangers were playing Mexico City & Matt has a friend who's brother plays for them so, it was fun to not only be back at the ballpark but, to get to see him play as well!
Here's some shots from our crazy, fun Thursday night!

This was as good as it was gonna get with a group pic... haha!

We had a lot of fun, as you can see & enjoyed spending the night at the ball park with our friends!

Saturday night Matt & I had a date night at the movies... we saw Silver Linings Playbook.  We both thought it was a good movie but, definitely different.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing some things around our home & working on wedding stuff, of course!  Sunday we had my Dad & brother over for Easter lunch.  I cooked a ham for the first time ever & it turned out sooo good!  We have plenty for left overs this week, that is for sure!
Ballin'!  Everyone went back for seconds!

WAIT!  Don't go yet.... so, do y'all remember when I was yackin my jaws about how 2013 was going to be the year of NEW things for Matt & I... just after he had lost his job?

Well, that was almost 3 months ago... 3 months!

I am so so SO over the moon happy to announce that Matt has been offered a job, accepted the job & TODAY is his first day on the job!!!

It's in a completely different field than where he was, but, exactly what his college degree is in.  It doesn't pay as much as the previous job but, the amount of experience he'll be getting in this field is priceless!

I am just so happy for him & I know he's excited as he begins this new chapter.
THANK YOU to each & every one of you that sent your thoughts & prayers our way over the last few months!  We are so greatly appreciative to all of you!  This hasn't been the the easiest of challenges that we've faced, especially right before our wedding but, we made it through & I know we are that much stronger for making it through!

(I mentioned on Twitter that there was more than 1 announcement but, I've decided to wait just a leeetle longer until it's more "official".  Sorry!)

So, let life resume as it should & the wedding planning continue!!!  :)

How did you spend your Easter weekend?
