Oh Heeey!

Just thought I would pop in & wish everyone a Happy Friday!!!

It's been a crazy busy week, getting our house ready to slide into weekend & finally take a rest & enjoy some down time!  Remember that wall we've been working on taking out??  Well, last Saturday Matt & a friend of ours worked ALL day to put in the support beam, because we were taking out a load bearing wall.  Take my word for it don't take out a load bearing wall!  I know it will be worth it once we're completely done but, geeze it took a long time & of course there were a couple of set backs along the way - that's expected.

This was after the actual wall had been taken out, the temporary wall was in place & putting the beam in place!  It looks even more different now but, more updated pictures will come when we have much more done that you can actually see in pictures.

This week has consisted of drywall, tape & bed, texture, paint.... it's coming along!!!

Thanks to Lisa @ Before Meets After & her brilliant idea, I was able to refinish these 80's dressers that were Matt's from college.  Thankfully, they were still in good condition & we now have a new set of dressers for our master bedroom!  I also added another coat of paint & clear coat to my great-grandmother's dresser that I re-did a while back... before & after's of that fun project here!

When working on stuff around the house I was walking through the living room last night & noticed this little guy...

A funny reminder that there's a little fur ball running around with playtime always on his brain!!

We have a big weekend coming up, starting off with our friends from Denmark arriving tomorrow (staying with us for a whole week!!!) & Matt's parent's 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday!

Have a great weekend sweet friends!

Five on Friday!

Hey friends!!!  Happy 1st day of Summer!

I don't know about y'all but the fact that Summer is officially here makes me very excited.  However, if you're in Texas you've probably felt like Summer was here since mid May or so!  But hey I'll take the warm sunshine over cold or rainy any day - no complaints here!

Linking up with Christina & the girls today!

One - I have been a painting fool this week.  Last night I touched up spots I missed the first go 'round & finished painting all of the corners in the room.  The color isn't as dark as we wanted but, I think it looks great & loving how it's turning out so far!  All that's left to paint is the ceiling!!!

Two - Last night while watering the flower beds in the front yard, our neighbor from across the street was doing the same in his yard... we walked to the edge of yards & were talking for a few minutes... & THEN he complimented me on how nice our flower beds looked & said that we had done a great job!!!

Is that not the best/nicest thing ever??  I thought so & it just made my night knowing that others had noticed (& approved) of our hard work!  #patsselfonback

Three - I ordered our curtains for the big window in the dining room this week from Macy's!  I can't wait to get them in & hang them up.  I know they will look great (at least I hope so) once we get everything done & furniture in place!  Bonus: They were on sale + I used gift cards from our wedding!  Bam!

Four - 1 week from tomorrow our friends from Denmark will be arriving & I couldn't be more excited!!!  It's been 2 years since we've seen them!  They will be our first "official" guest in the new house!!!

Five - Favorite Tune..... Will Hoge!  I first heard him live last year & fell in love with his music!  I finally bought his latest CD last week & can't turn it off!  Here's a tune you may know from the Eli Young Band... Will wrote this song!
Do yourself a favor & check him out!!!

It's another weekend full of house projects!  I'm excited though because tomorrow morning the wall between the two rooms comes down completely... meaning no more 2x4's in the middle of the room!!!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Dun, Dun, Dun.... House Tour!

Matt & I didn't expect to buy a house when we did.  Our plan was to get married & then start looking for houses & move mid Summer or so.  God had a different plan for us, even though I was freaked out quite a bit at times, He has guided us through it all!

Way before the house buying process ever started for us, Matt & I discussed what type of home we wanted to buy - a clean home, in a descent neighborhood, that's a fixer-upper.  And that is exactly what we got!  So, please keep that in mind when looking at these pictures.  Also keep in mind that we've only been in here for 2 months... including the wedding & honeymoon.

Our first project was the front yard.  All of the bushes were old, overgrown & it all just needed some help.  I'm not sure if what we replaced everything with was the right things or what other people would do but, we like & we're proud of the sweat & hard work we put into it all.
Close ups of the yard before here
Close ups of the yard after here

Entryway... hideous wall paper.... sans wallpaper!

The front room... the one you've been hearing ALL about on Instagram, Vine & here...
* This was pictures of the room before work began... keep scrolling for the current condition*
We're knocking out the wall to the right of the hutch along the left side of the doorway.  Removing the wall paper from the entryway (done!), re-texturing & painting & tearing up the carpet & tile & replacing it with laminate wood floors.

Living Room, Breakfast Nook & Kitchen
Our plan for the living room is to remove the wood paneling, texture & paint then, tear up the carpet & replace it with laminate wood floors.

Breakfast Nook - Taking out paneling then texturing & painting.  Kitchen - replacing cabinet hardware & glass in center two doors, new counter tops & back splash, vent-a-hood & new floor tile.

Master Bedroom & Bathroom
Bedroom - Re-texturing & painting.  Bathroom - Completely gutting everything!

Office, Guest Rooms & Guest Bath
1. Office/Craft Room  2. Guest Room (will be different in the next couple of weeks & that is Matt's sleeping room during the day so the windows are blacked out)  3. Overflow Room - holding all unplaced wedding gifts & house decorations  4. Guest Bath... Yes, that is a GOLD divider... ??

Re-texturing & painting all of these rooms... completely gutting this bathroom!

Now, wanna see where we're at with the front room??

Here's what we've been up to... Most of the work being done this weekend & last night I painted (it's not done, don't judge my skills! HA!)
1-6 - Wall progression
5-9 - Paint on the walls!!!

According to my June Goals we'll be done with this project by June 29th!  :)  We still have carpet & tile to pull up, finish painting & laminate wood floors to put down.  I'm confident we can get it all done though!!!

Follow along with me & our house projects on Instagram (@shayna_y) & Vine (Shayna Yancey) - you might get a little laugh out of a video or two... I may or may not have put the first hole in the wall!! :)

I can't wait to be finished with this project & see all of our hard work paid off!

Have you ever bought a "flip" house?

How are you with home remodels?

Hope y'all enjoyed our home tour... it's a hot mess at the moment but, I know it will all come together in the next several months!

Birthdays, BBQ's & House Remodels!

I'm pretty sure if we took a vote it would be unanomous that 2 day weekends are just not long enough!  I vote for 4 day weekends... anyone else??

Even though this weekend was only 2 days, a lot happened!  In our house that is...

Friday night we had our first cook-out & celebrated my best friends birthday!
1. Birthday Girl!  2. Nothing Bundt Cake... Yumm!  3. Pine-Orange-Banana & Vodka... adapted from Callie & also yumm-y!

I'm LOVING the new Beautiful Mess app!!!

We had to have a group pictures... including our fur babies!  They had SO much fun playing together too!

Saturday & Sunday morning were spent working on the front room in our house... It looks much different now from when we started... which is good since that's the goal...
1. Husband on stilts... as fun as they were they really did come in handy!
2. Taking out the wall!!!
3. Blowing texture in the entryway
4.  The aftermath of texturing!

We had a wonderful lunch on Sunday afternoon for Father's Day!  I love my Dad so much & am so blessed to have him as my dad!  Glad we got to celebrate him on this special day!

Linking-up with Sami's Shenanigans for the first time today!!!
Sami's Shenanigans

I'll be back tomorrow with a tour of the house & where we're at currently with our remodel!

Hope y'all had an equally as great of a weekend!

Five on Friday!

Hey y'all!  So, I know I might of said yesterday that I would have house pictures up today but, my bed was calling me earlier than normal lately last night & I obliged.  My house is still a wreck (because you know it has to look tip top before I post pictures, duh!) & I was just plain tired!

After getting so much sleep last night I woke up this morning all kinds of bright eyed!  Love it & now I'm ready for the weekend!!!

Today I'm linking up with one of my favorite southern gals, Christina & comp for Five on Friday!

One - Earlier this week Matt & I finally finished our flower beds out front!  You might remember that a month ago we pulled out all of the old bushes that were taking over the front of our house.  It felt great to have a fresh, clean start but then we never got around to actually finishing the project.  Finally this week we did & I love how they turned out!  It does sort of look funny since it's all so little, for now, but it will all grow eventually!

Two - TONIGHT we are having 2 of my BEST friends over & their men for a cook-out and birthday celebration for one!  I'm so excited to have friends over & to celebrate Chelle's birthday!  I think this will be our first "official" cook-out with friends at our new house!  I'm putting together some decorations to get us in the celebrating mood... I'm thinking some balloons are a must!
clear balloons + large confetti

Three - Saturday is going to be filled with A LOT of house work & to be honest, I'm really excited about it!  We have a deadline of 2 weeks from now to be completely finished!  We're going to be pushing it but, I know we'll get there!!!

Four - I know this may be sort of old news but I have rediscovered Bath & Body Works Japenese Cherry Blossom lotion.  I LOVE it so much!  It makes your skin feel silky soft & smells oooh so good!  Matt has even complimented me on it several times... & you know how guys can be when it comes to smelly lotions & perfumes!
Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion - Signature Collection - Bath & Body Works
Go get ya some!

Five - This quote has been speaking to me a lot lately!  Found it on Pinterest & I've seen it floating around Instagram too.  There's really no question why it is though because it's obvious... I've needed this reminder lately.  I know God is always by my side & guiding me through every turn & bump in the road, it's just nice to have this reminder from time to time.

I hope y'all have a GREAT weekend!!!

I'm All Shook Up... Graceland!

Taking it back a little today... When we were on our honeymoon trip in Memphis our afternoon at Graceland was a big part of our trip.  No, Matt & I didn't grow up with Elvis always being played on the radio & we certainly never made it to a concert or anything of the such.  We do both have memories of our parents & grandparents for me talking about & singing Elvis songs.

We pre-ordered our tickets as the website suggested & it was well worth it.  Speaking of... we both agreed that for the price we paid for our tickets, Elvis better show up as a hologram or something of the sort!  Unfortunately, He didn't.  That's ok though because it turned out to be an awesome experience & we got so much more out of it than we thought we would!

Starting from the beginning, here's some of our favorite parts of Graceland.  Prepare for picture overload... :)

Living Room

Elvis' mom's bedroom... I LOVE the deep, rich purple!

Records upon records upon records... This doesn't even show half of them.

Game room at the front of the Racquet Ball building

Piano Elvis played on the last morning he was alive

Racquet ball court turned into record displays

Yes, that's a gold plated sink...

Across the street from Graceland, famous music gates in the back.

If you made it through these pictures, pat yourself on the back!  Matt & I had so much fun at Graceland & we look forward to going back again one day.  Yes, I'm aware nothing will be changed but, believe it or not... after 3 hours at Graceland we still did not see everything!  My advice, if you're ever in Memphis, do yourself a favor & make time to visit Graceland.  I promise you won't regret it!

I hope y'all enjoyed our tour of Graceland!  Come back tomorrow for a tour of Yancey-land... ok, our house, casa, humble abode... Just come back & see me, will ya!?

Life Lately... House Projects & a Weekend Getaway!

Hey y'all!  Happy Monday Tuesday!

Life has been suuuper busy lately, what's new though right!?

If you follow me on Insta (shayna_y) you may know what I've been up to lately.  If not, then here is what I've been up to....

Matt & I started house projects last week.  We are re-texturing the front room & entryway of our house as well as laying new floor & painting!

Ready to sand walls... is my mask big enough??

The next night was time to tackle the horrible awful disgusting beautiful wallpaper that greeted us as we walked in...

I tore off wallpaper like a boss!

After we did so much work we decided to reward ourselves with a little weekend getaway!  KIDDING!  This weekend trip was already in the books... it's our yearly family trip with my Aunt, Uncle & cousins.  We rented this beautiful house on the Blanco River in Wimberley, TX.  It is such a cute & quaint little hill country town!  It was such a short trip that I cannot wait to go back & explore more!!!

Saturday morning we went to check out this semi-hidden spot call Jacob's Well.  My cousin's fiance found it on Pinterest... Pinterest of all places right!?  I don't remember all of the details of it but, it's a super deep hole... like 125 ft or something that leads to underground caves.  I was the loser who didn't jump & just stood behind the camera... womp womp womp.  Next year though, next year!

Even though it was a quick trip, Wimberley is a great town & it was nice to have some time with my family... relaxing, floating the river & indulging in a few adult beverages.  I'm looking forward to going back next year & spending much more time exploring this little hill country town!

And last but certainly not least... OUR WEDDING PICTURES CAME IN THIS WEEKEND!!!

Sneak preview....

I'm so excited to go through them all & finally share them with everyone else!!!

Hope y'all have a great day lovelies!!!
