Christmas & A Look Back at 2014

Wow! I can't believe Christmas has already come & gone!  Ours was fairly low-key this year... I was in the kitchen making Christmas goodies all Christmas Eve & we attended mass that evening. My in-laws & brother stayed over Christmas Eve & Christmas Day my Dad joined us!  We had our traditional big breakfast - Eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits & gravy!  Matt was a rock star husband & cooked the entire meal - it was all so delicious!  {Side note: This is a tradition we've done in our home for as long as I can remember!  I am so glad that through the years of our family changing & growing we have managed to keep this tradition alive - it's like it's one part of our "old normal" we can hold onto & I cherish it so dearly!}. After breakfast, snacks were brought out, we exchanged gifts & we all slipped into that full-belly coma - perfect 2 days in my book!!  Sadly, I didn't take any pictures while on break (bad blogger!) but, memories none-the-less.  Here is our 2014 Christmas card picture though...

Moving along... 2014! Holy cow!! 2014 is almost over, done, gone, close that chapter & start a new one!! I've been aching for January to come along for a while now but, it still blows my mind we're already here, ready to ring in another new year!  2014 was a pretty amazing year in the Yancey house & I can only imagine that 2015 will trump it... In a big, little way!  Here's some highlights of 2014...

I don't typically share work related things here on the blog but, I helped organize a city-wide blood drive with our Wellness Committee for Blood Donor Awareness month in January.  I'm so happy to say that the blood drive was a great success & we were able to make a large donation to Carter Blood Care!

I was able to meet one of my long-time blogging friends, Nicole when she was in town for a wedding!!  It was so fun meeting her & sweet Hunter man for dinner... We talked like we'd been friends (IRL) for forever & just picked up where we last left off!  Sure hope I can see her again in the not-too-far-off future!

For Easter I busted out my baking skills & made this super cute {if I do say so myself} layered Easter cake!  It was fun to experiment & get creative... & the cake was pretty delicious too!

May brought our 1st wedding anniversary & we took a trip to the Texas Hill Country to get-away & celebrate!

We made a lot of house progress this year too!  Out with the old & in with the new!  Now to just get rooms completely decorated & more tours up here on the blog!  All we lack is the bathroom remodels & we are done & done.... & then we'll work more outside - ha! It's never ending really!!

See the full kitchen remodel here!

We celebrated two of our best friends getting married in June {& had just found out we were pregnant!!}. It was a beautiful wedding - we are so happy for them!

In July we made our big secret public! Bingham is excited about his new role... Which now starts (hopefully) the end of January!  And we of course are over the moon... & still in shock!

In August we celebrated my best friends wedding!  It was such a fun day & she made a beautiful bride!!

In September we had our gender reveal party & found out we were having a sweet baby BOY!!!  We absolutely cannot wait to meet our sweet Jack Montgomery!!!

Fall took us to new places... We visited the Dallas Arboretum and it did not disappoint!  We had a lot of fun with good friends that day!

We also took some parenting classes... Baby CPR was definitely the best one & I feel better now knowing that I have the skills to perform CPR if the need ever arises.

We traveled across Texas for Thanksgiving & had our first baby shower in Corpus Christi with my family!

And lastly... We celebrated Christmas in the best way!  Our last holiday as just the two of us... Unless you count NYE but, you get the point.  Certainly was a sweet, sweet time!

Here's to all the memories we made in 2014... & Looking forward to the new adventures & memories to be made in 2015!

Cheers & Happy New Year, y'all!!

Maternity Pictures

Yesterday we had our mini maternity session with A & C Photography!  Since Matt & I had our anniversary pictures done back in May, I didn't want a lot of pictures but, certainly some to document this time in our lives especially with our first born.  Bingham was even a pretty good pup - and Ana & Chelsea worked their magic and we were able to get some good ones with him as well!  I'm so excited that we decided to do these pictures & despite the extra chill & wind we dealt with, I'm really happy with how they turned out!  If you're in the DFW area, be sure to check out A & C Photography - website & Facebook.

Baby Yancey - Week 33 Bumpdate

Y'all... this week has been buuussy!!  Needless to say, I'm so glad to see Friday & the weekend is here (I haven't truly felt this way in a long time!) but, I am so looking forward to the weekend and to relax a little bit!  I plan to be back here next week & I really can't wait!  I've missed writing here & reading everyone else's post - couldn't tell you the last time I opened blogger to just read!!  So, onto the bumpdate...

How far along: 33 weeks!  Holy toledo!  {I'm officially 34 weeks today!}

Baby Size:  Baby boy is the size of a Durian - a what!?!?  Not real sure but, 17.2 - 18.7" long & 4.2 - 5.8 lbs.

Weight Gain:  Up 3 lbs at my last appointment... A total of 23 lbs.

Maternity Clothes:  Oh yes!

Stretch Marks/Swelling:  No new stretch marks but, still fighting the swelling.  Just making sure I'm drinking a lot of water!

Sleep: Better than last week... But, for some reason I could sleep forever during the work week & I'm wide awake at 6am on weekends.  This isn't just a pregnancy thing I know but, can we say frustrating!?!?

Food Cravings or Aversions:  I've been on a breakfast burrito kick lately.  Mainly the ones from Sonic.  They're good but, kind of strange.

Gender:  Boy! Boy! Boy!

Movement: Baby nugget is a moving machine!  His kicks & punches are definitely becoming stronger & it's sometimes uncomfortable when He starts really moving around.  I'm loving it all though & know I will probably miss it a little bit once He's actually here so, soaking it up!

Symptoms: I'm constantly burning up & think it feels so good outside at about 40 - 50 degrees! HA!

Labor Signs:  Nothing yet... I don't think.  I've had some twinges in my lower stomach the last couple of days but, nothing major.

Belly button in or out: Neither - it's just flat

Wedding rings on or off: Off

Mood: Good... ready for the Christmas break

Nursery:  Getting there... Glider is ordered & will hopefully be printing prints this weekend.

What I miss: My foot/leg not hurting.  I have no idea what I did to it but, I've been limping around for the last week & a half, no lie.  It makes me that. much. slower & I'm just ready to feel as 100% as I can right now.

Best moment this week: Waking up this morning knowing it's Friday??  It's really been a crazy week so, glad to see it's on it's way out.

What I'm looking forward to: Sunday Matt & I are doing maternity pictures & I absolutely cannot wait!  Since we just had our anniversary pictures done in May we're only doing a mini session but, I'm excited to document this time in our lives, especially with our first little one!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!  I'll see y'all next week... Refreshed & relaxed!!

Baby Yancey - 32 Week Bumpdate

Hii!!!  It's been a busy, busy time around our house!  I've missed being here this week - hoping to be back in the groove soon!

Top - Old Navy  Leggings - Motherhood Maternity

How far along: 32 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby boy is as big as a Squash!  15.2" - 16.7" long, head to toe & 2.5 - 3.8 lbs

Weight Gain:  Will find out Friday

Maternity Clothes:  Oh yes... & my skinny jeans are too tight now, thanks to swelling!

Stretch Marks/Swelling: Swelling was down over the weekend as I stayed pretty busy but, my feet have been a little puffy this week being back in the office all day.

Sleep: Eh... it's ok.  Not great but, not horrible

Food Cravings or Aversions:  Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree... The Little Debbie one's that is!!

Gender: Boy! Jack Montgomery!

Movement:  Oh yeah, all the time!

Symptoms:  Back pain (I don't think this is going away) & a growing belly - I've even hit it on things lately lol!

Labor Signs:  I had my first Braxton Hicks Saturday night!  It wasn't killer pain but, certainly didn't feel great & was uncomfortable... and scared me a little bit at first.  Haven't had another one since though...

Belly button in or out:  Flat

Wedding rings on or off:  Off

Mood:  Oh these hormones... They're killing me... & Matt - poor guy!  He's been such a trooper!

Nursery:  Getting organized, making progress!

What I miss:  Being in Las Vegas right now for the NFR... Next year!  Next year!

Best moment this week:  Finally getting our Christmas pictures done!  HA!  I've been such a slacker this year!

What I'm looking forward to:  Not baby related but, getting my hair done this Saturday!!  It's been almost 5 months since I've been in to see my girl Julie & I can't wait to see her & let her work her magic!!

Other Notables:
+ I swear I should be leaning to my right when walking - Jack stays on my right side & is officially taking up space in my ribs.  Fun times!

+ I got my TDAP & Flu shots earlier this week.  I never get my flu shot so, I better not catch it! HA!  But, all good stuff for baby boy to have!

Baby Yancey - 31 Week Bumpdate!

Top - Ross

How far along:  31 Weeks!

Baby Size:  Baby boy is as big as a Pineapple!  {15.2 - 16.7 in long, head to toe!}

Weight Gain:  Up 2 at my appointment last week, so a total of 20 lbs.

Maternity Clothes:  Nothing but!

Stretch Marks/Swelling:  No new stretch marks that I've noticed but, my poor feet have begun to swell.  :(  I'm drinking a lot of water though & trying my best to keep them elevated throughout the day & at night while sleeping which all seem to be helping.

Sleep:  Ugh... being away from home, away from my recliner over the holiday was pretty brutal.  Needless to say, I've slept like a rock the last few nights since we've been back home.  I think I'm catching up on the lack of sleep I got while away.  Thankfully, Matt helped me along though & we got creative with mounds of pillows to prop me up so I could breath & somewhat sleep while out of town.  Thankful for that man!

Food Cravings or Aversions:  Nothing new here... still have a sweet tooth!

Gender:  Boy!!

Movement:  Oh yes!  Jack is still quite the wiggle worm but, now I feel him stretching out & can actually feel him in my ribs!!  That's a weird & uncomfortable feeling but, do what you gotta do little dude!  HA!  Also, He literally stays on my right side!  Sometimes he's in the center of my stomach around my belly button but, I think He's been on the left side maybe twice this whole pregnancy!?  So crazy!!

Symptoms:  Back & hip pain, feet swelling & oddly enough I had a nose bleed while at dinner the other night.  Luckily, it was a small one but, perfect timing right!?

Labor Signs:  None so far - not even Braxton Hicks!

Belly button in or out:  I would say it's flat at this point

Wedding rings on or off:  Off... :(

Mood:  Grumpy from lack of sleep... Excited though & ready for these next 8 weeks (or less!!) to fly by!!

Nursery:  His shelf came in yesterday & I'm hoping to get things organized & start finding their places this weekend!

What I miss:  My back not hurting.  It's pretty much a constant thing & really keeps me from doing a ton of stuff.

Best moment this week:  Our baby shower in Corpus Christi!!

What I'm looking forward to:  Taking Christmas card pictures & getting some real progress made in Jack's room!!

Thanksgiving + Our First Baby Shower

This weekend was just what the Dr ordered!  Well, technically not what the Dr ordered... He wasn't very happy that I was traveling clear across the state at 31 weeks pregnant.  {Insert big, cheesy smile here!}  But, it was good for the heart & the soul.  Good family time x2, great Thanksgiving food x2, Christmas was even celebrated... x2 - it was a great several days!  Sadly, I don't have many pictures from our Thanksgivings but, Friday morning as we were leaving Graham to travel South, this beautiful sunrise wished us "Good Morning"!

While we were in Corpus, on Saturday my family threw us our first baby shower!  It was so nice to have family & family friends there that won't be able to make it to our shower here at home in January & to visit with everyone just a little bit longer after the Thanksgiving festivities were over.  We were gifted with some amazing things for Jack & it all makes me so much more excited {is that possible!?} & ready for baby boy to be here!!!

Probably my favorite gift of all!  My aunt's mother-in-law was so sweet to gift this beautiful quilt to Jack!  She hand stitched every square & quilted it all by hand as well - whoa!  We are so grateful for Memaw & her abilities & thoughtfulness for us & Jack!!  I'll cherish this blanket forever!!

My family & family friends - so thankful for all of them!

We definitely came home with full stomachs & full hearts!  Looking forward to what December has in store for us!

Baby Yancey - 30 Week Bumpdate

I call this, "running around before a holiday road trip". Will update with a better picture later!

How far along: 30 Weeks

Baby Size: Baby boy is the size of a cucumber!  2.5 lbs - 3.8 lbs!

Weight Gain: Not sure but, will know later today at my appt!

Maternity Clothes: Yes, yes, yes!

Stretch Marks/Swelling: I don't know if it's true swelling but I think my feet were a little puffy yesterday. Hopefully it's just because the heater was acting up at work making it feel like Summer temps! Ha!

Sleep: Eh, it's ok. I'm officially sleeping in the recliner full time. Praying I can sleep descently away from home this weekend.

Food Cravings or Aversions: Nothing really... Sweets still sound good!

Gender: Boy! Definitely boy confirmed again last Saturday!

Movement: Still squirming about, a lot!  But I'm loving all of it!

Symptoms: Back & hip pain, jabs to my bladder & not being able to bend over anymore - lol!

Labor Signs: No way Jose!

Belly button in or out: I would say in but, it's pretty flat.

Wedding rings on or off: Off... & it makes me sad.

Mood: Ready... Ready for these next several weeks to go by & meet our baby boy!

Nursery: Ahh!! Matt finished painting the dresser this last weekend & once we return from the holiday we'll be getting even more done!

What I miss: Nothing really... Maybe my own bed. Lol

Best moment this week: Seeing our baby boy on the ultrasound monitor. We didn't get the best pictures because he's head down (praise Jesus!) & face backwards... & his umbilical cord was drifting across his nose. Lol. So, it was hard to see him but, baby boy sure loves his feet & toes & keeps those at his fave too!  It was the sweetest thing ever to see our baby boy!

What I'm looking forward to: Getting away this weekend & taking a break from life. It will be such a good refresher to see our families & just enjoy time with them & our last holiday season with just Matt & I... & Bingham!

Other Notables:

+ I was recently contacted by Osh Kosh B'gosh & they wanted to send me a gift for Jack. I thought, "well, how sweet!" & seriously only expected maybe a onesie... Wrong!  Last Saturday Matt & I arrived home to our gift from Baby B'gosh & we were floored at all of the adorable items they gifted Jack with!!  I absolutely cannot wait to put him in these outfits & see some precious photo ops ahead!

I hope that y'all have a Happy Happy Thanksgiving!!!  No matter who or where you're spending it, I hope you're spending it with people you love & are thankful for!

A Few of My Favorite Things - Stocking Stuffers

Stockings are one of my favorite things to buy & to receive!  As a kid growing up we always saved our stockings for last & there were certain things that we knew Mom Santa brought us each & every year but, it still made it so much fun!!

Other things that were included in our stockings as kids & that I still try to include in Matt's stocking (& next year Jack's!!) would be movies, CD's (what are those!?) or iTunes Gift Cards, fun fuzzy socks, sunglasses (the inexpensive kind), candies such as Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - you know, the candy cane full!?

What are your favorite stocking stuffers??

Be sure to link up with April, Elise, Katie & Zelle!!!

House Tour - The Kitchen!

To say this post has been a long time coming is an understatement.  This poor kitchen was a bit of an eye sore when we first bought the house.  After living with it for a while & getting other things taken care of, this last May we dove head first & began the kitchen renovation.  We had the granite installed from a company in Dallas & we installed the back splash, under cabinet lighting, hardware, vent-a-hood & recessed lighting ourselves.  We also retextured the walls & ceiling as well as painted.  The floors are the only thing we have left to complete in this space but, it's merely a "we just don't want to tackle that job just yet" situation.  AKA we're being lazy.  This journey of turning our house into a home has been an exciting & exhausting one but, I'm so proud to say that Matt & I have done almost all of the projects ourselves!  We've learned a lot - about house remodel, ourselves & our marriage.  So, enough about the kitchen... here's what you really want...

If you have any questions about anything in the kitchen, feel free to ask!

Lilla Rose Hair Accessories

I recently received a couple of hair accessories from Rebekah @ Lilla Rose that have been fun to add to outfits & jazz things up a little bit.  I sit at a computer for 8 hours a day & typically wear a mini hair clip to keep my hair out of my face.  Sometimes even the 'ol banana clips are busted out... remember those!?  Anyways, Rebekah was nice enough to send me a set of Bobby Pins & Flexi Mini from Lilla Rose & they have both been fun additions.  Both hair accessories would be the perfect addition to a birthday gift or even a stocking stuffer for your favorite lady!

The bobby pins are heavy-duty so, sure not to fall out of your hair or loosen & perfect for girls with thick hair like myself.  I've used both but, here I only used 1 for how I was styling my hair... hiding my roots!

I must admit when I opened the Flexi Mini I was a bit confused as to how it worked!  Luckily, there was a quick 1, 2, 3 how-to included & I was using the Flexi Mini in no time!  The Flexi Mini is a fun alternative to the regular hair clips I typically use & adds a little fun to my go-to hair do.

Like these hair accessories also??  Visit Rebekah's Lilla Rose site here & be sure to check out what else Lilla Rose offers!  Be sure to message Rebekah once you've placed your order & spent $40 or more before tax & shipping... You'll receive 1 free Flexi!  Offer valid for U.S. customers only & expires December 1, 2014.

Crock-Pot Pot Roast {Recipe}

Since we received our crock-pot as a wedding gift, I figured it was time I start trying more recipes other than queso for parties.  When thinking of recipes to make in the crock-pot, Matt requested that we make a pot roast.  I've only made a pot roast in the oven so, I was a little hesitant just because I didn't know how it would turn out.  Turns out.... it was pretty darn good!  So, enough of my rambling here's the recipe that I put together from a couple different pot roast recipes.

Ingredients

2 lb Pot Roast
3 small Potatoes - peeled & diced
1/2 an Onion - diced
8 oz. Baby Carrots
2 Cups of Chicken Broth
1 Cup Water
1 Packet Brown Gravy Mix
Salt & Pepper - to your desire

One - Trim the fat from the roast, peel & dice the potatoes & dice the onion.

Two - Place the Roast in the Crock-Pot along with all of the ingredients.  Mix together as best you can.

Three - Place your crock-pot on low & cook for 6 - 8 hours.

I can say that after cooking this recipe & testing a couple others, I am hooked on crock-pot recipes!  I hope you enjoy this one!!

What are your favorite Crock-Pot recipes?
