Baby Yancey - 12 Week Bumpdate

I am super excited to be posting my first bumpdate!  After reading so many others in blog land over the last couple of years, I imagined quite a bit about how it would go when it was my turn.  I can say that it's a bit awkward having my picture taken but, I'm hoping with more of a "bump" & less "fat" feeling it will be a little more enjoyable! Just being honest here. :)

I have to say thank you again for all of the love & support we have received since our announcement - it means so much to Matt & I!  So, here's the rundown of how Baby Yancey is doing!

Palazzo pants is where it's at!  Red Horse Boutique

How far along: 12 weeks!

Baby Size: Baby is the size of a lime!  Soon the baby's reflexes will start to develop.  Fingers will begin to open & close, toes will curl, his/her mouth will make sucking movements, & eye muscles will clench.

Weight Gain:
About 3lbs as of my last weigh-in at the Dr.

Maternity Clothes: None yet but, certainly bigger sizes in some of my "normal" clothes.  I have caught some great maternity items on a couple different sales though so, I'm ready when the time comes!

Stretch Marks/Swelling: A little swelling in my hands but, I feel like this is mostly due to the heat & humidity we are having right now here in Texas.  I've used Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter some but, definitely need to get into a habit of using it nightly!

Sleep: It hasn't been great but, the last 2 nights I have slept like a baby!  Hoping this keeps up for a bit because I feel like a million bucks!

Exercise: Does stretching count?  If I'm being honest, I've been a little lazy in this department.  Hoping to change that this week though!

Food Cravings or Aversions: Nothing really this week but, overall my sweet tooth has certainly been kicked into a little higher gear than it normally would be.  Can anyone say Red Velvet Cake? S'mores poptarts?  There was one day where someone mentioned fried chicken & I couldn't get it off my mind.  Unfortunately, it was a big let down as the chicken was not very good.  Womp womp!

Gender: I honestly have no clue!  Some family says girl & some say boy!

Movement: Nothing yet... except the rumbling of a hungry stomach. :)

Symptoms: Pregnancy headaches are no joke!  I've had some back pain but, that has been pretty regular almost my entire pregnancy so far.  Another notable mention in the last couple of weeks, nose bleeds.  I don't even know the last time I had a nose bleed & then I had about 5 in a two week span.  So crazy!

Labor Signs: Um no!

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding rings on or off: On!

Mood: For the most part happy.  Matt's work schedule finally got to me on Sunday & I had a good cry about it.  I feel like it was needed as I haven't had a good 'ol cry in a while.  So, that's done with & we're moving on!  :)

Nursery: I've been slowly clearing this room out & putting things that were stuffed in there from the other room renos back in their homes.  As we finish the hallway & sell some things it will become much more de-cluttered & cleaned out!

What I miss: Fitting into my normal clothes.  Sitting for 8 hours per day definitely doesn't help when your pants are getting snug!

Best moment this week: Scoring at the Motherhood Maternity Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale & beginning to fill in our pregnancy/baby book!  So surreal!

What I'm looking forward to:  The prenatal massage that I'm already planning for after 14 weeks!!

Baby Yancey... How We Found Out!

First of all I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all of the love & support Matt & I have received over the last couple of days!  We are over the moon excited & feel truly blessed to have as much support as we do!

I don't plan on bombarding the blog with only baby things from here on out but, I certainly want to document & share our journey along the way.  I do plan to keep a weekly "bumpdate" for keepsake purposes & to eventually turn into a book for Baby Yancey as well.  Today though, I want to share the very beginning of our journey... How we found out!  So, let's get started...

How we found out...  Sooo, yes we were trying and had been trying for several months.  It was getting hard being the bearer of bad news each month to Matt that "no, no baby this month".  So, when Memorial Day Weekend rolled around & I had to tell him again that it wasn't happening it was heart breaking.  So I thought.  Fast forward to the Wednesday after and let's just say what I thought was happening over the weekend wasn't actually happening.  I was extremely flustered this day, felt like I was having hot flashes & was just a mess.  My best friend talked me into taking a pregnancy test when I got home so, I did.  I prepared myself for the negative results while Matt played devil's advocate reassuring me that it could be positive!  Of course... the first test was positive & practically right away!  I was in complete shock... so was Matt!  I couldn't believe that it was actually true & I was looking at a positive pregnancy test!  I didn't believe it enough so, I took two more test!  HA!  I think it's safe to say we both felt excited, overwhelmed, a little scared.  Things were said like "We're having a baby!!!"  "Oh, we're having a baby?!?"  "Yeah, we're going to be parents!!"  Such a roller coaster of emotions all at once but, certainly one of the best moments of my life!

How we told our family...  The same evening we found out we rushed off to Buy Buy Baby & bought several cute bibs with fun sayings on them, put one in a gift bag & was off to track down my dad!  We chatted for a little bit & then surprised him with his gift.  He was extremely excited, couldn't believe it & was/is just over the moon as well!  He's already wanting to buy Baby Yancey a pony!  HA!  #firstgrandbabyperks  We did the same with Matt's parents but, a couple of weeks later - which was complete torture!  This will be lucky #7 for Matt's parents!  When we took our river trip to the Texas Hill Country we were able to tell my Aunt, Uncle & cousins who were all extremely excited!  Then, we told all of Matt's brothers & families as well as some extended family that weekend via phone calls - everyone was extremely happy for us & excited to welcome a new baby into each family!

& Friends...  Time & distance didn't allow me to tell my girlfriends so, this picture was sent to my girls... no caption needed.  Everyone freaked & was super excited for us!  It was also sent to our families when we called them... one of my uncles thought I was holding 3 paint brushes!  Haha!!  I mean, it's fitting considering how much renovating we've done but, it was hilarious... I died laughing!  (Love you Uncle Kev!)

A few questions answered...

How are you feeling?  Overall, I have felt pretty good!  In the beginning there was stomach cramps & back pain but, that has subsided.  Most recently it's the nose bleeds & head aches... who knew nose bleeds were part of pregnancy symptoms!?  I'm so thankful I haven't had any morning sickness or nausea.

Will you find out what you're having?  Yes!  We're definitely finding out!  I'm a planner and have plenty of things that need to be monogrammed... as if we won't know it's all the babies stuff!?

Have you had any cravings?  No major cravings but, my sweet tooth has kicked in for sure!

Do you have names picked out?  Sort of... we certainly have our list narrowed down for both boy & girl names but, we haven't decided 100% on one.

Are you hoping for a boy or a girl?  Honestly, Matt & I would both be 100% happy with either.  I think it's safe to say I would love to have that special bond with a daughter like my mom & I had & Matt would love to one day throw ball with a little boy... but, at the end of the day we would be happy to welcome either into our life as long as there are 10 fingers, 10 toes & a healthy baby.

If you've made it all the way through, congrats!  Thank you again for all of the love & support from everyone - we certainly feel it!!

Surprise! Baby Yancey... Coming February 2015!

Yes, it's true... Matt & I have been keeping a secret for the last 2 months!  It's been such a fun & exciting journey so far & I know it is only just beginning!  We are over the moon excited & feel extremely blessed that the the good Lord has chosen us as parents-to-be!  (& of course, Bingham as a big brother!!)

White Chocolate & Pearl Pretzel Sticks

Every Christmas season one of my favorite (and family & friends too) treats to make are white chocolate covered pretzels.  When thinking of "thank you" gifts for the bridal shower my girlfreinds & I hosted a little bit ago, we all decided white chocolate covered pretzel sticks would be the perfect salty-sweet treat!  Topped with pink pearls for some added sass and paired with pink & white M&M's to complete the package!

What you'll need:
Large pretzel sticks
1 brick of white chocolate almond bark
Wax paper

One - I started off by melting my almond bark in a glass bowl in the microwave in increments of 30 - 45 seconds.  Lay out wax paper onto the counter top or over cookie sheets.

Two - Once the chocolate is melted, begin dipping the pretzel sticks one by one, covering about 1/2 - 3/4 of the pretzel.  Lay out evenly on the wax paper to let dry.  I would dip about 10 - 15 sticks & then sprinkle the pearls over them.  Some will of course not stick & that's ok but, most will.

Three - Let the pretzels dry completely (time will differ depending on the temperature of your kitchen).  Once they are dried begin bagging the pretzel sticks, adding additional treats you wish & tie with a cute little bow.  Or the silver ties that came with the bags...

I printed this note in Word using one of Kevin & Amanda's free fonts!

These pretzel sticks are fun because of course you could make them for any holiday or special occasion!  Get creative & dye some of the almond bark different colors too!

Have you ever made pretzel sticks before?

Let's Get Organized: Under the Kitchen Sink

When we moved in our house last year organization wasn't at the top of my priority list.  It was more "just put it where I can find it" mode.  With majority of the house remodel being complete I can now begin to focus on not only decorating our "new" home but, also making it functional & organized.

One of the first places I tackled was the cabinet under the kitchen sink.  I know this may seem like an odd place to start however, by organizing under the sink freed up space in drawers in the kitchen which led me to be able to shift things around & overall have better functionality.  Admittedly, it's taken some getting used to but, I'm so happy with all of the changes.  My original inspiration came from Jennifer @ iHeart Organizing {this post, specifically!}

When the new countertops were being installed we packed up everything under the sink... & then it sat on the breakfast table for weeks after.  I had already made a trip to The Container Store to pick up a few items that would assist in making this space that much better.  I picked up this cleaning caddy, two small stackable shoe drawers & this pop top container.
First things first, there were things in this box that were either super old or were just simply never used so, they were tossed out!  I then played around with the empty containers under the cabinet to figure how things would fit around the pipes & well, the kitchen sink.

This basket was already attached to the inside of the cabinet door.  Before it just had random stuff shoved in that I couldn't "find a place for" in the cabinet.  It works perfectly for holding the dish soap & extra hand soaps.

I placed the cleaning caddy at the front for easy access to pick up & off to clean!  Extra cleaners & bug sprays have been placed neatly at the back of the cabinet.

I placed old towels in the bottom drawer & dish rags in the top drawers.  I typically don't use rags as I have a dish scrubber or the dish washer.  With the new counter tops though came new uses for things - must clean them with rags, no cleaners!

You may have noticed there were multiple boxes of trash bags before.  The extras have been stacked at the back with the ones most used on top of the towel drawers along with the pop top container holding the dishwasher tablets.

The finished, organized under kitchen sink cabinet!  It has truly come in so handy & it's nice to open the doors and not have things falling out or shoving things back in while trying to shut the doors.  Ahh... organization!

What organization projects have helped you with use & overall functionality?

Our Weekend... Not the Disappointing Kind!

Our weekends lately have not been disappointing in the least bit.  Which makes Monday that much harder to wake up to!  Friday night Matt & I went to First Friday on the Green which is a monthly outdoor concert series the Near Southside puts on.  We've been in years past but, this was our first time this season.  The weather, the atmosphere & of course the bands did not disappoint!  It really was the perfect way to end the work week & kick-off the weekend!  Saturday morning I was off the the Parker County Peach Festival with my girlfriends.  It was a fun morning with the girls & then lunch & peach tea - the best!  Saturday afternoon brought our first time out on the lake for the Summer as well.  The weather was great - not to hot & juuust right!  Sunday was filled with couch laying & relaxing... trying to ignore the fact that the next day was in fact, Monday.

Thank you, Saturday.  You were awesome!

Hope you had a non-disappointing weekend as well!

DIY Monogram Cups {+ A Recipe}

For my girlfriends bridal shower a couple months ago, one of the food items we served was fruit with fruit dip.  Our original plan was to do a fruit tray but then, we came up with the idea of fruit cups.  So, I decided I wanted to try my hand at making personalized, monogrammed cups!

What you'll need:
9oz Clear Cups {Dollar Tree, y'all!}
Printable labels
Label Paper - {Full sheet & cut OR Pre-cut rounds}
Fruit Dip {Recipe below}
Variety of fruit

I searched high & low online for printable labels & finally came upon these adorable cupcake toppers.  This site has a ton of super cute printable for all occasions!  This particular label only has a certain amount of room for words to fit in so, if you're using something other than a monogram or short word, be creative!  I chose to do the groom & bride-to-be's monogram: C B C.  Unfortunately for me, I hadn't discovered the round labels yet so, I printed the labels out on the full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of label paper & cut them out by hand.  I highly suggest trying to make pre-sized labels work!  HA!

Once the labels are printed & cut, stick them to the clear cups.

When the shower day came, we filled the bottom of the cups with fruit dip and then added strawberries, grapes, apple slices and pineapple pieces on top.  Each guest could pick up a cup and have their fruit & dip all together!  These labels could also be used for baby showers, birthdays, etc.!

Fruit Dip

1 8oz Kool Whip
1 Vanilla Chobani Greek Yogurt

+ Mix the two ingredients together, cool & serve.
+ To add a little fun, add drops of food coloring to
coordinate with your theme!

Happy Birthday America!

I would say that we lived the American dream this weekend.  Cold drinks, productivity around the home front, enjoyed fireworks, spent time with family, went to the drive-in theater {saw Tammy - it was pretty funny}, more productivity at home, Sunday morning church, errands & a little R & R!  I couldn't of asked for a better 4th of July weekend... Does it really have to be Monday already?

We met my Dad in my hometown for dinner & then off to the city fireworks show!

Do you know how hard it is to take a picture at the drive-in when it's already dark & the flash goes off!?  Matt said, "When it flashes the first time open your eyes really wide!"  Umm, yeah ok!  We see how that turned out.  ;)

I hope all of you had a great, All-American filled weekend!

Oh So Pink Bridal Shower

In May I was a co-host for one of my best friends, Chelle, bridal shower.  With several hostess' we were able to split up all of the "duties" & everything came together beautifully!  Our friend Erin was gracious enough to host the shower at her home.  The "theme" for the shower was shabby chic, pink & pearls.  We served fruit cups, a veggie tray, pasta salad, chicken salad sandwiches, Sour Cream & Salsa Pinwheels & a delicious Red Velvet cake.  For drinks we served tea, water & 3 fruit juices - Apple Juice, Orange Juice & Pineapple Juice.  It was a beautiful afternoon with so many friends & family in attendance.  I'm so happy that I could be a part of showering our wonderful bride & cannot wait to stand by her side in August!  Enjoy the overload of pictures... I couldn't help myself, it all came out so beautifully!
