Yancey Christmas 2016

This Christmas season seriously flew by so quickly!  Last year I hardly took any pictures (shame on me considering it was Jack's first!). So, this year I made it a point to bust out the camera, even if it was my trusty iPhone camera. I'm so thankful I did because I will cherish these sweet memories forever.

Christmas Eve began with me running out for a couple more last minute gifts & a grocery store run - surprisingly it wasn't too bad out. Once back home Jack "helped" me bake some sugar cookies, getting flour everywhere in the process. It was eventful to say the least but, we both had fun!  Jack especially enjoyed checking on the cookies progress every few seconds & helping me transfer them all to the platter - which he actually did quite well at.

My in-laws joined us on Christmas Eve & stayed over through Christmas Day. So, I made Christmas Eve dinner - Ham & tamales with some sides my mother-in-law brought. Everything was so good & turned out perfectly!  Matt & I were up until about midnight playing Santa & I was like a kid on Christmas Eve... Could not wait to wake up!

Jack actually let us sleep in Christmas morning which was nice because I know in years to come that will change.  Once up, we made our way to the living room to see what Santa brought. Right away Jack went for his farm animals & barn then we had to nudge him along to the next big item, his workbench & tools. He loved them both so much & kept going back & forth playing with them. It actually took us most of the day to finish opening his gifts because he wanted to play with each one he opened.

I must note this gift which I chose after Christina's recommendation & knowing how much Jack likes to help in the kitchen. He has already loved playing with this toy so much & theres many learning opportunities with it as well. So glad I snagged this little gem.

Later my family joined us, we had lunch - I made a double batch of chicken & dumplings and then we opened gifts & all visited.

My Dad & Jack... They always have the best time together!

Christmas this year was a perfect blend of busy & low-key.  We are now ready to kiss 2016 goodbye & ring in the new year!  I hope you all had a very Merrry Christmas, however you were able to spend it.

Thoughts for Thursday: Randomness

Happy Thursday!!  So I have a mix bucket of thoughts that have crossed my mind this week. Oddly enough it actually feels good to get it out of my head & on "paper".  So here's the randomness from my brain this week...

- Parenting is hard
- Halloween with a 21 month old is unpredictable
- Where's the motivation to cook a meal!?  I have none lately :/
- I can't believe it's November & I'm sure as heck not ready for Christmas
- But I've already bought a couple of Christmas gifts
- Texas needs to get it together in the weather department already - We want Fall!!
- I've yet to vote but I want to vote early so I don't have to wait in line on Election Day
- We started a Fall craft last weekend & have yet to finish it. It requires mommy to paint it & well... Lack of time or a mommy clone. #reallife
- On an up note, I bought these boots a couple weekends ago for an early birthday gift from Matt & did you know you can have a Nordstrom debit card & still get all the perks of a "card holder"!!!  I was too excited about this little tid-bit of information!!
- And for a true random... Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday I ran into a different high school classmate at Jack's daycare whom I didn't know their little ones attended there as well. & no, we're not even in our home town, though somewhat close!

That's all I've got today!  Be sure to link up with Annie & Natalie for Thoughts for Thursday!

Life Lately

We have been some busy bees lately so, there is a lot to catch up on!

We'll start back in September!  At the beginning of the month we celebrated my brothers birthday & at the end of the month celebrated my Dad's birthday!  We enjoyed great dinners for both birthdays!

Yummy Mexican food for my brother's birthday!

& We enjoyed Lucille's for my Dad's birthday.  Bless him for picking such a great restaurant!

My Dad & Jack after dinner.... they have a pretty funny relationship - always playing!

We also had some very dear friends over for dinner one weekend.  I of course made Pumpkin Dip for the evening but, the best part was my little helper!  Jack was so interested in what I was doing & too often He is either starving or "we don't have time".  My heart may of skipped a few beats while enjoying this time with my precious little guy!

I mentioned here that I put together a Halloween Bag for Jack.  He has enjoyed using his new plate & utensils but, has really enjoyed his new glass!

I also added these two adorable shirts... insert all the heart eyes!

Most recently, Jack & I met up with my best friend Kimberly, her two daughters & her mom & grandma at the Dallas Arboretum.  It was right at an hour drive from our house & the entire time Jack desperately wanted to go to sleep but, never would.  From the moment we pulled up at the valet (because hello, solo parenting at the pumpkin patch! #worthit), got out the wagon & tried to put him in it... He. Was. In. A. Mood.  I should have asked Jesus then to take the wheel.

So, I carried Jack & pulled the wagon to meet up with Kimberly & the gang.  We first visited Pumpkin Village which is built completely out of pumpkins - super cool!  The girls enjoyed running around while Jack was mostly overwhelmed by the amount of people and clung to me majority of the time.

While in Pumpkin Village we took a photo opt in Cinderella's carriage.  Jack was clearly not thrilled about it & even more upset when I told him we had to get out of the carriage.  Oy!  Toddlers!  Unfortunately, our time at the arboretum went downhill from there with Jack screaming & crying.  I tried everything in my momma arsenal to help him & nothing worked.  I finally waved my white flag and headed for the car... which was the longest walk ever!  I'm pretty sure we were battling a few factors working against us - teething, tired and... being 1 1/2.  :)
I share these moments not for sympathy - although I heard a lot of it through the arboretum that morning, ha! - but, because this is real life, y'all!  Of course I wanted cute pictures at the pumpkin patch but, there were other plans laid out for us that day.  Life is not always the highlight reel our social media accounts make it out to be.

I'm not sure if I have ever been so glad to get home than that day.  Thankfully Jack rested for a bit & we seemed to have a better time the rest of the day.  Sunday was filled with meal planning, grocery shopping and football - a Cowboys win!!

Whew!  That's a broad life lately - we've been busy and not slowing down anytime soon.

Fall Bucket List

It may not feel quite like Fall yet but, that doesn't mean I haven't been lusting for Fall since August!  Needless to say, I'm excited to bust out my Fall decorations this weekend & enjoy some crafts with my little guy!

I think we're good here!

Here's what is on my "bucket list" for Fall 2016!

- Visit a pumpkin patch
- Make a pumpkin pie
- Make an apple pie
- Carve/paint pumpkins
- Make a Halloween craft
- Make a Thanksgiving craft
- Get lost in a corn maze
- Take a hay ride
- Go to an outdoor concert
- Read Halloween & Thanksgiving books
- Print seasonal coloring pages for Jack
- Visit a local brewery
- Have a day of family, football & cooking-out

What is on your Fall bucket list?

Labor Day Weekend 2016

Ahh... 3 day weekends!  Extra long but, somehow go by just as fast as a 2 day weekend. Per usual we managed to cram as many activities into the weekend as possible!

On Friday after work my girlfriend Erin & I went to the Just Between Friends kids consignment sale. I've had great success at this sale before & did so again this time around!  Jack should be set for Fall/Winter almost but, let's be honest, I'm not done shopping for him. Ha!

Saturday morning we were up bright & early & on the road West to Graham. We went to Graham to visit Matt's parents, Matt to help his Dad & brother on house projects at his parents house & to visit friends & dove hunt.  Matt & his friend didn't have much luck hunting but, got to do some catching up. It's almost a sin to not hunt opening weekend of dove season so, I'm glad he got to get away for a bit.  Until Jack was acting like a crazy person after a short nap & then got eaten up with fire ants all over his legs   Poor guy... He has been a trooper about them ever since though.

Just before the ants attacked

On Monday I went out shopping for a few more work clothes & hit up a great deal at Target on shoes - Cartwheel had an extra 25% off all shoes!  Woo hoo!

Later that afternoon we went to visit friends who just recently had a sweet baby girl!  Jack wanted nothing to do with Kyler all evening & pretty much refused a picture with her. He will one day learn, girls aren't so bad! ;)

Whew!  Makes me tired just recapping our weekend!  But, as I'm soaking up every moment with my little family these days, I wouldn't trade any of the business that is this season of life!

Target Deals and Steals

*This is not a sponsored post... Just passing along some great finds!

I have to admit, I may not buy everything at Target (because hello, money!?) but, I probably would come close if I could. Target has long been my go-to store & I am a true bargainista through & through. Combine the two together & you have the idea behind today's blog post. And who knows, maybe there will be more in the future.

First up are my recent Dollar Spot finds. Confession: I avoided the Dollar Spot like the plague when it was first introduced. Now, I don't ever pass it up!  First, I found this adorable recipe book for $5. I have a basket full of recipes on different types of papers & there is no organization to it. I plan to transfer all of my recipes into the book & declutter the recipe basket!

Different sections for different types of recipes

Then I found these adorable burlap pumpkins this last weekend for $3 each. I just could not pass them up!  They will go perfect all the way through the Fall season.

Same day, another isle.... I picked up these sweet treats for Jack.  I haven't given them to him yet because to be honest, he was being a complete toot that day.  So, I've decided to hold onto them & give them to him on October 1st to kick off the month of Halloween!  With each treat being $1 each, this makes for a pretty inexpensive "treat bag".

Staying with the Halloween theme... I've seen these Grab & Go packs before but, Jack has been too young for them.  Each pack comes with a mini coloring book, crayons & stickers.  He really loves coloring and these will be perfect for our long trips in the car. And at $1 each I couldn't help but to pick up a few!

Other bargains to note...

Are you a Target Cartwheel user?  If not, you should be!

I picked up these adorable Cat & Jack boots for Jack the other day which were not on sale but, they were 25% off with the app.  Score!

Other items that I often find on the Cartwheel app are well... all kinds of baby products such as Boudreaux's baby products, the Up & Up Diaper Pail liners (SO much less than the name brands!), diapers & so much more!  I also find things like nail polishes, clothing items, and all sorts of grocery store items!

So, my last & probably biggest savings recently was when we purchased our second convertible car seat so that Matt & I could each have one in our vehicle.  No more swapping it out when we want to take the vehicle the seat isn't in!

The car seat is originally $379.99 at Target but, it was & CURRENTLY STILL IS on sale for $304!  Target is also running an additional sale on select Britax items (this is one of them) + you get free shipping for spending more than $25.  If you have a Red Card (which I do) you can save an additional 5% on your purchase.  With the combination of the sale, additional savings, free shipping & Red Card savings, our total came in at $293.19!  That's at least a $100 savings on this awesome car seat!

I'm still on a high from this savings so, take advantage while you still can!

Whew!  That's my round-up of recent Target bargains!

What have you saved on at Target lately?

Becoming a Working Mom

As of August 15th, I officially joined the world of working moms.  I'm a full 3 weeks in to my new job & happy to report that we're finding our groove.  I still roll an eyes at the alarm clock though - not sure that will ever stop.

As many of you know I've been a stay-at-home mom for the last year & a half. It was truly the best & hardest 1.5 years of my life.  I didn't really have expectations of what being home would be like, though I envisioned play dates & so forth being easier to get together. There were plenty of days I was bored out of my mind & other days we were moving from sun up to sun down - playing, running errands, etc.  I will cherish that special time I had with Jack though & will always hold a special place in my heart.

Earlier this Summer Matt's job as an oil & gas Land Man came to an end. We were fortunate in the sense that this particular job lasted longer than originally thought but, it certainly put kinks in our life plans at that particular moment in time & moving forward. We have had to remind ourselves "In His perfect timing, not ours". So with the loss of Matt's job, being forced to put plans on hold & not knowing how long it would be before he found another job, we decided it was time for me to begin the job hunt as well.

So, I began searching & thanks to one of my best friends, within a few weeks I was able to find a job at a local title company as an Escrow Assistant.  I've always enjoyed real estate so, this is right up my alley.  Although, I've never worked in title so I'm starting from the ground up. I'm truly enjoying learning everything & being the biggest sponge!

As for Matt & Jack... Matt has a couple of solid job leads but, the interview & hiring process for each have been long & drawn out. (Any prayers & good vibes for one to come through soon are appreciated). So, for now Jack is staying home with Matt & they're living it up!  Matt has been a rockstar of a stay-at-home Dad & I'm pretty sure Jack loves having him at home as well.  We will have one more hurdle to adjust to once Matt goes back to work & Jack begins school/daycare full time. (Also, one of the hardest things ever - another post, another day!)

As hard as this season of life is, I'm so thankful that it has all happened the way it has. We got some unexpected quality time as a family, I've been able to adjust going back to work while Jack & Matt have gotten some one-on-one quality time together as well.

My First Fix - {Stitch Fix}

Well, I finally took the plunge... I finally tried Stitch Fix.  However, not without prompting from the fact that I won a $200 credit for working my little side gig.  I've actually wanted to try it for a while but, would never take the plunge to do something of the sort for myself.  So, I'm really excited I was able to have this opportunity & try it out.

I must admit, the beginning process was a little confusing - I think I may of been making it harder than it was but, nonetheless I was confused.  All worked out & my box of goodies arrived earlier than expected so, that was a nice surprise.  Upon opening the box I liked everything I initially saw and couldn't wait to try it on!  I'm no fashionista and certainly not a "fashion blogger" so, judge lightly when reading through here...

First up was this super soft & comfortable Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Top.  I loved that it was a neutral color & could be worn multiple ways (one of my request in my feedback).  I paired it with my Old Navy skinny jeans, a gold necklace & brown flats with mixes of gold & silver in them.

Verdict: Kept

Next up was the Papermoon Hennah Woven Hem Detail Knit Top.  At first sight I liked the top but, when I got it on it was just all wrong.  The way it crossed my chest made me feel like I looked bigger than what I am; where the print detail hits the cotton top & where it lands on me, just not a fan.  Overall, I thought the top was cute but, did not flatter me in any way.

Verdict: Returned

Next was the Papermoon Bastille Tulip Sleeve Blouse & Liverpool Mira Skinny Jeans.  I mentioned in my feedback that I would like some pieces that I could go out on a date night or events that I attend.  My stylist hit the nail on the head with this top.  The color was great, the sleeve detail was super cute & not something I've seen often and the overall fit was comfortable.  However, it was a tad too big so, it was a little too flowy.  I have the Mira Skinny Jeans on with this top & as far as overall look and comfort goes, I loved them.  However, they were a little too long for this 5'3" gal and were scrunched at the bottom which I wasn't a fan of.  Also, the top was just stretch... there was not button or zipper.  Now, some may love that but, seeing as how I still have baby weight to lose + some, they felt a little too much like maternity jeans.

Verdict: Returned both

Lastly, the Bay to Baubles necklace.  I'll be very honest, I was not a fan of this necklace at all.  As soon as I took it out of the box the first thing I noticed was how thin the pendant and chain both were.  For lack of a better word it just seemed cheap & not worth the $36 I could of bought it for.

Verdict: Returned

Overall, it was a great experience & I am excited to try again with a second box in September!  Want to try StitchFix yourself?  Click here to get started!  {<-- My referral link}

A Getaway Weekend - Galveston, TX

This last weekend Matt & I made a last minute decision to meet my aunt, cousin & his two sons in Galveston for the weekend.  I challenged myself to pack us all 3 in 1 bag since we would be there less than 48 hours. Challenge accepted & completed!  Boom!

We drove down Friday afternoon when I was finished with my work lunch.  I forgot a couple of small things so, we stopped by Target & then made our way to the hotel for the night. #targetisalifesaver   Saturday morning we were up & at 'em & off to Moody Gardens. I have been told in the past if we got the chance to go, go. All in all it was a great experience & fun place. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck as we did the aquarium, rain forest, skeleton museum (not what it's called but, #mombrain), 3D movie, 4D Interactive movie & the Birds of Flight show.  We had a jam packed day & still did not see everything.  We were wiped out after dinner & called it a night.

Sunday we slept in a bit, packed up & then had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.  Another check off the bucket list as it was our first time visiting there as well. We were impressed with the food for being a themed, chain restaurant & the service was awesome.  Overall it was a great experience & the perfect way to end our little get away!
